Texas A&M Succeeds In 12th Man Trademark Battle Against Soap Company

Aggy made them boys drop their soap real quick.

quote:

In an order issued on July 12, the USPTO's Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) determined that Washington Soap Company, which sought registration of a trademark for "12th Man Hands" for use with handmade loofah soap bars or pucks would not granted the requested registration

Your understanding of trademark law is very lacking.

I think by law they have to defend their trademark or they risk losing it. It either needs to be officially licensed (for as little as $1 per year or something) or not used at all outside of the university.

You are correct, I am ignorant on it. I still think it's stupid. It's not like they are trying to make money using Mizzou logo. They could do much better to be honest, and it's pretty common in sports with mascots/names/logos.

So you think they should have been able to hold on to their soap?

Obviously these videos were not taken during any ATM vs LSU games. Those would be sad.

So, when are y'all suing the Seattle Seahawks? You know they have that whole 12th man thing, too.

The licensed it from A&M since around 2006. Recently I believe it ended and now they call themselves the 12s and not the 12th Man.

Edit:

quote:

Under provisions of the new 5-year agreement, use of “12th Man” on the Ring of Honor in the Seahawks’ stadium will no longer occur, nor will there be any references to “12th Man” in social media by the Seahawks franchise, Texas A&M officials announced.

So it looks like they still do, but we allowed them to use even less of it.

Impressive gifs. How's that home field advantage?

The fans give more of an advantage than any other stadium on earth. Unfortunately, fan participation only accounts for about .05% of what actually matters.

Dead wrong man. Tiger Stadium has far more epic games and stories of insane crowds than Kyle Field could dream of. And championships seasons to back it up.

ETA: I'll list a few

The Earthquake game
2007 LSU Florida
2003 Georgia (fans willing the team back to life after a huge UGA touchdown)
