not the norm
Isnt this specific surgery being pioneered by Andrews and his team?
If so, the close proximity could make this the "the norm" for the Crimson Tide.

this place....
I know it's a message board but it's the male equivalent of my grandma's beauty salon. Bunch of cackling hens
I can just picture Willamina Taylor sitting under the dryer with an isssue of people in her hands ...talking to Mrs Tigerskin. "Yeah well I heard some Dr in California said it was incorrect...yeah...and he is the Dr for the NFL football team in LA"..."Oh.in LA ..as in California.. well he must be bona fide then" with Ms LSU_______ interrupting " i heard that that Nick Saban is unbearable to work for and play for...thank God we have someone that understands how to make a reaux"
Ahh....this place. Brings me back to being 6...7 yr old and running errands with my grandma. Good times

This thread has so much BS in it . . .
Embarrassing for the folks upvoting and commenting on it.

Searched best orthopedic surgeons and didn't see anybody in Birmingham on the US News and World Report list. So, I searched for best Orthopedic Hospitals and didn't see any place in Birmingham in the top 20. Not saying you're wrong, but Maybe the places in Birmingham are just hidden gems.
Add the word sports to your search and your results will differ.
This entire discussion is dumb. There are always doctors who disagree with procedures.

Maybe most people don’t care who the hell the team doctors are. Maybe other people are busy with jobs and what not. Perhaps not in the backwoods of Alabama like you, dip shite

This is how you try to justify being unread and ignorant?
Jesus, that's pathetic.

For what it's worth, LSU's Glen Logan had the same surgery Tua did after the Texas game. He wasn't able to return until Florida game.

This whole thread is an abortion. OP and some of her minions come across as shrill douches in implying Tua is receiving anything less than world class care. some Bama fans lashing out at the (probably second-rate) doctor in the OP are also off base. This ISN'T standard care right now, it IS cutting edge. That's a fact. Alabama as a state is behind in pretty much everything, but anyone who can't see that UA is pushing sports medicine forward through a pretty impressive commitment to innovation is an idiot.

Nope, you don't get to try to walk this back now as if you don't have egg on your face. You looked like an idiot in this thread. Just accept it and move on- it happens. I'd advise doing that thing where a poster just disappears from the thread and pretends he didn't see that he got owned.

quote:Actually, you could make a case that Andrews has pioneered this procedure as a preventative measure. It was originally designed for severe ankle injuries with ligament damage (torn from bone) and a recovery prognosis of a few months. It appears they are using it now for minor sprains to reinforce the ankle and get players back on the field in 2-3 weeks.

Dr. Chao was NFL team orthopedist for Chargers for 15 years.
Yes, let's take a look at the esteemed Dr. Chao and what many think of him and his opinions:
"These insights are hard currency for gamblers who know how dramatically a game’s path can change based on one injury. There’s money to be made, even though it’s not life changing. “My main monetization is my practice still as an orthopedic surgeon,” Chao said. “This is a fun hobby that thankfully is becoming monetized. It was never the original goal to do this to make a living. There is monetization coming and I think it may grow with the legalization of gambling.”
The NFL league office did not respond to a CNBC inquiry for its opinion on this trend.
As legalized sports gambling grows across the country state by state, look for more doctors like Dr. Chao to pop up and offer their own instant injury opinions."
Sure, the guy was an NFL team doctor. And Alexander Shunnarah is an attorney. They both market themselves for their own self-interest.

Why the frick do LSU fans take Chao seriously?
"In the months before his suicide in 2012, former NFL linebacker Junior Seau didn't receive proper care from his doctor, David Chao, according to a case filed against Chao last year by the California state medical board.
The board accused Chao of gross negligence. Chao's attorney fought back. And now the two sides have reached a settlement: The former San Diego Chargers team doctor will be placed on probation for four years and will not be allowed to prescribe the drug Ambien during that time as part of the settlement and disciplinary order related to his treatment of Seau, a Pro Football Hall of Famer.
The board said Chao, 52, failed to exercise proper caution in the extended use of Ambien with a patient showing signs of depression and suicidal thought. During the last 18 months of Seau’s life, the board said Chao wrote him 14 prescriptions for Ambien, a sleep drug associated with increased incidence of impaired driving and suicide."
You really want to go here...quoting Chao is as an authority on the best course of treatment for Tua?
Probation for role in Junior Seau's death.
Request by NFLPA to have Chao removed due to multiple malpractice claims.

I think Tua should be glad he was not treated by Dr. Chao.
Chao resigned as team physician in 2013 using the Urban reason.
Controversial Dr. David Chao leaves the Chargers

assume Dr. Lyle Cain performed this surgery. Dr. Cain is at Andrews Sports Medicine, who are renowned for their work with high profile athletes. So, I’m not going to doubt their work, skills, expertise, etc.
