Bobo is at worst a solid hire it seems. He’s always done well at developing quarterbacks (what auburn needs right now) and is a good recruiter. As far as offensive stats, I know he’s been up and down but did have the top offense in the sec his last year at UGA and did really well statistically at Colorado state.

As for Friend, yes UTs offense wasn’t good this past year. I blame this on their quarterback or at least what they called a quarterback. Friend brought in more blue chip talent to UT in 2019 than auburn has in the past 5 years.

What am I missing?

Not hate, just underwhelming hires. Kind of lazy, low hanging fruit-picking to get a few SEC coaches on staff instead of his west coast guys. It’s very transparent.

Friend is not a great recruiter. His UT success was an outlier and largely done with the help of the Neidermeyer guy I believe.

I think he signed like one 4* his entire UGA tenure.

ETA: both are super connected in the South which really helps Harsin in the short term, so that’s a plus.

I think both are teetering on the edge of being dinosaurs. Bobo's scheme is old and isn't anything groundbreaking in today's football. Friend's OL tend to be undersized and his OL at UGA were downright bad at times. Like I said in the other thread, the unit he assembled was awful. Tennessee's was laughable.

But Bobo is a great recruiter and can develop QBs for sure. He'll make some absolutely head-scratching playcalls at times though.

It’s not 2014 anymore, so is that O really what you want? and bobo is now an old crippled man.

friends OL at UTK was loaded with talent but still bad. That’s not on their QB. That’s on him.

I remember the last drive against Bama in the 2012 championship game. Hopefully he’s learned if/when we get back there.

Friend took 4 5*s and a 4* 6th year senior and made them look mediocre AT BEST

College coaching is the biggest scam

Echoing what everyone is saying. At best these coaches are "solid" but this is a clear signal to me that Auburn isn't serious anymore and it's sad to see.

Sad isn’t the right word.

We just paid $30 mil to buy out a coach and staff who won the SEC.

That was actually a great drive.

He left uga with his awful naked bootleg fail at Carolina in 2014 though.

Bobo was good at Georgia. He will do wonders for Nix because he is good with QBs. Friend got great line play in 2014 but they were overwhelmed a few times and didn't seem to adjust well, particularly in the GT game.

Yeah because hiring experienced SEC guys is somehow lazier than bringing his Boise State coaching staff to a top 15 all time program.

You cant make this stuff up

Yes, unfortunately.

I do respect the opinions of UGA and USC fans on Bobo though (and the Vandy fan too on Mason )
But unless a guy leaves your program on top, on their own terms, you opinion can be a little jaded.

Auburn’s staff just doesn’t scream upgrade over what you had.
