It appears the Texas schools are bringing their big bucks and swagger East. This is not about defending Alabama, because they have outspent every other school in their endeavor to stay on top. And this is not to throw stones at Texas AM for wanting to succeed. But big bucks, thanks to the judicial system, is going to change this once proud SEC family. I don’t understand why decades of doing business as usual got changed by some judge. Universities are not compelled to offer sports and students are not compelled to play for them. If receiving a full academic scholarship is not enough compensation for an athlete, they are absolutely free to dip their toe in the semi-pro or pro leagues. So now we have to deal with a new ugly reality. Hatred and envy will now replace the once noble and honorable Conference we grew up with.

I remember the days of Bear Bryant coming to town and beating Vandy by 45. His post game comments always included remarks about how tough Vandy played. Thats what I call honorable embellishment.

I mean, if you’re going to add two programs that make at least a modicum of sense then the SEC picked the best two after whiffing during the last two rounds of expansion (A&M aside).

It sucks that the SEC has sixteen teams, but I guess this is the best way to make the jump.

I agree with your sentiment OP, but at the same time all of this stuff is changing, and if we are to remain relevant then you have to be at the forefront of this stuff.

When you say "business as usual" does that include decades of back room deals aka illegal recruiting?

No.

Their fans will sit around and talk about how much money their boosters have, and how they can outspend everyone and they can afford to pay all these millions more than everyone else.

But they won't actually do it. Been watching it happen with Texas fans for years and years, and it seems lately A&M fans are no different.

Texas was going to buy Saban for example. They could easily pay him 15 million a year, no problem. Have you seen their boosters and all the money they have?

Do they? Nah, they go out and buy coordinators from the schools of those who actually pay for the good coaches for about 4-5 million a year. 2nd tier shite, and that's why they are always 2nd tier. A&M spent the money, but they got Jimbo for Saban prices.

Having the money and actually spending the money are two different things. It's the actual spending of the money that matters, along with what you are spending it on. Throwing money at shite is no guarantee for a solution or success.

And in the end, it's not about how much money you have to offer. It's about what value you have to offer. An extreme version of this is if Alabama and Tulane offered a player equal money, they are still going to choose Alabama. Because Alabama offers value on top of the money. And so in order for Tulane to take that player from Alabama, they would likely have to pay quite a bit more than what Alabama would need to pay.

And of course, other shite is still going to matter as well, just as it always has in recruiting. How close to mom? Fall in love with some pussy on an unofficial? etc.

You didn't understand a single word he wrote. It's the difference between Vanderbilt and Tennessee.

You idiots opened the door to Texas. Galvanized the A&M fans in the process. Good luck!

Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, and LSU have all won natties more recently than Texas, Oklahoma, TAMU, Mizzou, and Arky.

They'll bitch about the SEC CG being in Atlanta for the once every 8 years they get a chance to see their team play in it.

It’s all about money. They add schools to add money. It doesn’t matter if it makes geographic or cultural sense or if it’s a good “fit”. If we don’t add tu/OU, if you don’t add A&M/Mizzou, you leave money on the table that would gladly be scooped up by another conference. Conferences, NCAA, CFP, etc don’t care what the fans want, they don’t care about screwing up the dynamic, or fixing what’s already broken before expanding to new horizons. It’s a billion+ dollar enterprise and they care about getting the biggest share of that.

The conference was an idiot for allowing aTm in. You frickers were the biggest cheaters in the old SWC with the exception of SMU and were a big part of why that once proud conference is no more. I see history repeating itself allowing "new" money in the league.
