Does the NCAA-SEC ever adopt the spot foul PI call?

I hope not. It's an awful rule.

I'm not sure how I feel about this rule. Giving the refs a judgement call that could award a team a game is questionable. At the same time, a guy tackling a WR cause he knows he's beat for more than 15 seems cheap.

I think they changed the college rule after SMU was basically given a game against Arkansas in the early 80s on a terrible PI call.

I wouldn't mind the down by contact rule in NCAA

Spot foul if it's less than 15 yards.

I fricking hope not. No jersey grabbing is worth a 75 yard penalty. Spot foul capped at 15 yards is perfect.

Not with SEC officials, they can't call the game correct now as it is. Talk about influencing the game at that point.

If the NFL went to the college rule, they would interfere every play, the passing game would come to a halt.

IIRC it used to be a spot foul. 90s maybe? The tipping point came from a string of PI calls on hail Marys that resulted in ball on the 1 and an un-timed down. They changed it the next season. 93?

spot foul PI call?

I disagree with the rule basically because it proposes that the receiver will catch the ball. That's a gifted call imo. If there's interference and the ball is caught, then add another 15 yards because he actually caught the ball. I mean if there is interference, then it's interference. Defense should be penalized regardless if the pass is caught or not.

Catch the ball - a foul with no consequence. Miss the catch - he was interfered with. Doesn't seem fair.

with the lack of skill that NCAA refs have - I hope not. It's bad enough to lose 15 yards on a phantom call but losing 50+.... PI is very difficult and NCAA refs are frequently not up to the task. Minimize the damage. Now that I think about it - I would really like to see some data here. Wondering the number of completed passes over 30 or 40 yards (point of completion not YAC) and the number of PI that are called at the same distance. Wondering if the numbers are close. Have a feeling that a lot of the PI's in NFL would not have been caught
