I think the main factor, more than anything, is that coach fatigue had set in. It wasn't that Gus was horrible. It was that most Auburn fans were sick and tired of him.

The weaknesses in Gus system were evident in 2017 and those home wins against uga and bama got him the control he wanted. I was in favor of it at the time. IMO it removed any doubt that he wasn't the guy for the job. I never thought Auburn would pull the trigger this year, but it needed to be done.

In 13 and 19 it was obvious that Bama was the better team. Bama made mistake after mistake in those games that Bama should have won by double digits.

The 17 game was more of a toss up of who was better. Alabama's defense was decimated by injuries that Iron Bowl, but had gotten healthy by the time the playoffs started. Plus Tua was ready by the playoffs and Saban would be more inclined to put him in at a neutral site then a true road game.

Also, the games wouldn't be at JHS. JHS is pretty much the only stadium Auburn can beat Bama these days.

If I had to predict the scores to those rematches, it would be

2013
Bama 45
Auburn 24

2017
Bama 30
Auburn 17

2019
Bama 59
Auburn 28

What's crazy in some abnormal years, you will have to play the same opponent 2 or 3 times.

Auburn and Georgia could have faced each other 3x in the 2017 season under this new format.

Yep, makes that first game irrelevant.

LSU beat Bama in 2011, so what. The Saints swept Tampa last year, blew them out both games. Oh well. The only game that matters is the last game you play.

Kind of makes you wonder, would the committee try to split up the field, or would they try to pair teams up? I mean, you don't need an LSU-Bama rematch in the first game, but I don't think they want that happening in the championship, either. Might keep all the SEC teams on one side of the bracket, all the Big 10 on the other side etc.

Respectfully, how many times did Gus change OC’s? How many Offensive line coaches came, left, returned? That suga-huddle crap, fans n opposing teams knew what Gus was going to run before he called it. Intensity, conditioning was regressing each year, complacency for just starters. You can not get 4-5 star linemen to go to a school who does not run some kind of Pro style offense ( blocking schemes, etc). Aubie gave Gus time to correct, he could not deliver. See ya! Aubie burned $$$ cause he has it and wants to get back to the top of the conference instead of settling for mediocrity. Please keep thinking Coach Harsin and his Staff are a bust.

It's a good point. Coaches are getting fired for their lack of playoff appearances. Mostly because college football is playoff or bust.

Perhaps a lot of Gus Buses out there will hang on to their job a lot longer.

He got fired because his biggest in state rival coach is the greatest of all time and AU can't get over that.

Our road game out there was a joke. All they could say was “Roll Tide” to us! Worst facilities in the SEC! Harry Truman High

Not true. Gus's record vs BAMA was better than any SEC head coach by a lot. If the barners get to the Playoff in the years they beat BAMA they would be there plenty.

No sir Harry Dawg. Last I checked it was UGA trying to be Mini-Me. Aubie respects Coach Saban. Those that understand his accomplishments are in fact a bit envious. Aren’t we all?

Well that's simply just wrong.

Gus getting his teeth kicked in by your team 7 times had a lot more to do with it than Alabama.

I'll bet gus feels like the weight of the world has been lifted off his shoulders. No more pressure to win at a big level each week. Like going back to high school ball with a huge check.

Probably. He sucked in bowl games. Woulda been out first round Everytime

It’s quite obvious that bowl games these days are meaningless and players know this. They do not give it their all. Many opt out now. Do you really think if Florida vs OU was a meaningful game with a championship on the line, that the gators still get destroyed like that?

Same goes for UGA against Texas.
