He’d had AU IN 3 out of 8 years (2013, 2017, 2019)

How he would be perceived might be a little different but interesting nonetheless!

Getting your team to the playoff will buy tons of coaches time that otherwise they’d be fired for.

So yea, Gus would still be your coach IMO

That is why Auburn shouldn't have fired him! He had the COVID-19 to deal with and you fired him because he wouldn't change the offense. But he was still doing better than most and look what LSU did last year and went 5-5. Too bad Auburn had to burned money to get someone to stat all over again. It isn't going to fix over one year. It will be about 3 years to get any stability. Maybe longer or maybe never with Harsin.

If only facial expressions could win games.

Yes.

That wouldn't change his 2-7 record vs. UGA. His winless record in Baton Rouge, and his 2-5 bowl record would just include 1st round playoff losses.

And he still would've neglected recruiting offensive linemen and still would've ruined several 4/5 start QBs.

You are just moving the goal posts for him.

So it will take a new coach 3 years if NEVER to achieve any kind of stability because of what Gus left behind, but we should have kept him?

Does your phone not have auto correct or do you just overide it to misspell all those words?

No.

But do most coaches still have their jobs if Saban didn’t exist? Probably.

Ifs and buts.

I suspect not.

Unknown variables:

If he makes the playoffs how would that have affected recruiting?

I know Gus' bowl record was atrocious, but he definitely played in bowl games where NFL bound guys and NFL wannabes gave about 50% so his bowl record doesn't necessarily mean his 2017 or 2019 teams would have performed poorly in the playoffs.

I also believe it would have changed the 2014 teams melt down if a 12 team playoff had been in place. That D quick once they thought the goals were off the table.

I would have loved Iron Bowl rematches in the playoffs in 13,17 and 19.

The beatdowns Bama would have put on Auburn in those rematches would have been epic.

Agreed. How epic would an iron bowl rematch be for all the marbles? Though when I think about these fantasies I always assume after playing both teams that ya'll would have lost to FSU in 2013 before getting to Auburn.

Hopefully it stops this, and we get good games. Tired of the opt outs or excuses for getting blown out by Utah, well they didn’t care about the game, since it’s not the championship.

Truth be told it's a real issue. I watched D Brown beast out his entire career and go through the motions against PJ Fleck's boys. I wouldn't have thought he'd mail it in but he did. Don't blame him, but we've had plenty of guys do this over the years.

I always worry when we draw a bowl game with a bunch of seniors who are future High School coaches and Insurance salesman against our guys when we have a handful of NFL bound guys and a few more who believe they are NFL bound. That fear predated Gus. IMO Auburn has another issue where we rarely have guys that grew up wanting to go to Auburn like the state named schools experience which means winning the final game means a bit less to most of them.

I was at the UCF game in January of 2018. We had guys that looked more like bull fighters than football players. Add that to KJ being about 60% and the upset happened. UCF played like their hair was on fire. Heck, even our fan base was going through the motions. The players had to feel that in the stadium that day.

What's crazy in some abnormal years, you will have to play the same opponent 2 or 3 times.

Auburn and Georgia could have faced each other 3x in the 2017 season under this new format.
