That's not the point. This is not new to the medical field. Yes you can test for it. Yes you can find it. The people studying this virus are very concerned about what Myocarditis is doing to the heart for some reason.

here we go..........

Myocarditis, a rare heart condition linked to the coronavirus, should concern the NFL as it aims to begin a season during the pandemic, according to the Baltimore Ravens’ head physician.

Dr. Andrew Tucker said evidence suggests COVID-19 can increase the risk of inflammation of the heart, which can lead to myocarditis and cause sudden cardiac arrest. Speaking to reporters Wednesday on a video conference call, Tucker said even a chiseled football star who contracted the coronavirus would have some chance of developing the condition.

quote:

“The risk is low,” Tucker said. “But how low is a little bit premature to say because we just don’t have the data. This hasn’t been going on that long.”

Reports indicated the threat of heart inflammation played a role in the Big Ten and Pac-12 conferences announcing the cancellation of their fall sports seasons earlier this week. The Athletic’s Nicole Auerbach wrote that the Big Ten knew of at least 10 players diagnosed with myocarditis before making an announcement.

In a document meant to guide the Pac-12's path through the coronavirus crisis, a medical advisory board warned of “new and evolving information regarding potential serious cardiac side effects in athletes.”

quote:

“It’s a concern,” said Tucker, a former president of the NFL Physicians’ Society. “Myocarditis is one of the rare causes of sudden cardiac arrest in our athletes and it is usually caused by a virus that causes inflammation in the heart. It is very rare, fortunately, but it can happen and it can happen theoretically with any virus, but certain viruses tend to make it more likely. Unfortunately, COVID has proven early on to be a virus that tends to involve the heart.”

Quoted in another thread:
Lsu athlete from 2006-2010

Our hearts were screened every single august

EKG and Triponin levels taken. If that came out abnormal, full echo was taken

IF schools are testing for covid AND screening for myocarditis as part of not only the annual athletes standard physical AND monitoring and screening them again if they test positive for covid. The what other protocols can a program possibly take to protect and care for the well being of their student-athetes?

Alabama and apparently LSU have been screening for myocarditis for over a decade as part of the extensive annual athletic physical.

People studying this virus are very concerned about a bunch of shite, but life goes on.

If players are afraid, they all have the option to opt out for the season. There are risks in playing sports, if they've tested positive for covid and have a heart condition then just stay home.

Players would go out and play with a concussion if someone would let them. They have proven to not be the best judge when it comes to health and safety.........especially their own.

And?
If a student-athlete test results show an swollen heart muscle, they won't be playing ball. IF the test results show no swelling and they are still afraid it could later happen then they have a choice to make and they can opt out.
