Wait, what? Are you saying the risk of an athlete developing myocarditis from Covid shouldn’t affect our policy on playing?
I'm telling you it's something they can test for and detect before they allow them to practice or play after recovery.
The Big10/Pac12 are full of shite. Players are more likely to die in practice, which they are keeping, than they are in a game.

Are you saying athletes have never had it pre COVID and it's something new or life threatning in young athletes?

Dr. Carlos Del Rio, a chief medical advisor for the NCAA and Emory University professor, likened the possibility of playing football this fall to being on the Titanic. “We have a serious problem. I feel like the Titanic: we have hit the iceberg and we’re trying to make decision on when the band should play,’ Del Rio said
Jesus freakin Christ how dramatic can you get?!

He makes it sound dire. It also sounds like he isn't pulling any punches. What concerns me, every one of those Dr.s understand what is going on with this virus...........even if the American people haven't been told the entire story.

It’s not frickin brain surgery; if they get it, they’re going to have zero to mild symptoms, and be back in 14 days. This is all a pile of unadulterated horse crap!

Agree that athletes are insanely low risk.
Not sure how that applies to everyone else though (coaches, staff, fans, etc).

The Titanic!
This hasn't come close to meeting the fear-mongering predictions that were shouted from the mountaintops in February, March and April.
This is more like a dinghy that has a small hole in the bottom, so you have to bail it out with an old coffee can every few hours.

Myocarditis is a risk for pneumonia and the flu. This isn’t some new phenomenon that came with COVID. It’s also something that can be tested for and treated accordingly. So no, it shouldn’t affect policy. No one is advocating for sick people to play. You’re not going to suffer from myocarditis and be asymptomatic

Kinda like the facemask debate. Science says the facemasks are not effective, politicians say they want them anyway so that they can say they did "something".

since we have so many experts on this topic regurgitating the same thing..............
quote:
The disease severity may vary greatly, ranging from asymptomatic or mild flu-like symptoms to cardiogenic shock and sudden death (
quote:
Patients presenting with chest pain with preserved left ventricular (LV) function typically have an excellent prognosis. Conversely, patients presenting with heart failure and/or life-threatening arrhythmias, in particular when associated with severe LV dysfunction, have a greater risk of adverse events during follow-up.

In other words..........it isn't a cookie cutter medical issue.

It doesn't matter what the risk of getting it is, you test everyone who has recovered from it.
quote:IF an athlete is tested for Covid, tests positive AND at that time is tested and monitored for myocarditis during his quarantine. Then the athlete recovers, tests negative for covid and is clear on the myocardititis ......Why would that athlete still be at risk if he chooses to play ball?

But you can test for it and find it. All they have to do is test those who get covid, then not play/practice them.
Should be done regardless of games.

None of that disqualifies his opinion, but let's not pretend his views have no political bias to them.

but why are they so concerned with it now and not concerned when somebody is getting over the flu? That is my question. There must be a reason.

quote:A lot of programs have always tested for this as part of an athlete's annual physical. I know Alabama and in another thread it was stated that LSU has done it for many years. Athletes are screened, and if anything abnormal shows up it's straight to the EKG and on to more intensive tests.

so it seems even medical experts are not on the same page. I just wonder how many of these Dr.s have actually studied the virus?
How many of you had to get second and third opinions because the situation was not solved?
