Or do they just like competing for titles, getting chargers, and having a good shot at making the NFL?
Saban seems like he would be a miserable person to play for or talk to. I imagine he's cocky and doesn't have time for anyone.
Coach O would probably be a fun guy and a guy who would make his team a "family"

I certainly hope not.

There’s a name for coaches that are loved by their players. Their called Former Coaches.

Im assuming they fricking hate his guts. And then when they leave they realize he was one of the best things to ever happen to them.

You arent supposed to like your mentors. Youre supposed to hate and respect them. Its why the Bear was a massive success and why Saban is.

Have you never heard ex Alabama players talking about him?

They love the guy.

You’ll always have disgruntled former players but I think I remember quite a few former LSU players that played for him that have been vocal about supporting Saban.

The hardware doesn’t hurt though.

Coaches and parents who treat you like you're their best friend often times fail in their job of getting you ready for the challenges of life.

People think Nick is "Press Conference Saban" or "Sideline Saban" all the time. The truth is he likes to hang out at his lake house and tell deeze nuts jokes while sipping his coffee and eating oatmeal pies. He's more "normal guy" than most would believe. He has guys from the team over to house all summer long to frick around.

Do people who work at Apple like working for Tim Cook? Or do they just like consistently being a part of one of the best companies in the world, getting paid millions of dollars, and having a good shot at setting their family and their family's family up for life?

Kinda feels like Saban is Alabama and Alabama is Saban. And the championships, chargers, and NFL pipeline is about playing for Saban. It's not an apples to apples comparison, but i think when you take a scholarship to play for a person or school, "liking" something is more shades of gray than just being black and white.

Don't seem to hear or read about ex-players disliking him anymore than ex-players of other coaches.

He's also without a doubt shown his chill at the lake side a whole lot more in the last 5-7 years. I don't know if it was the Tornado, his grandbaby or what, but he's definitely less agitated away from sideline/practice situations.

I think Nick is just finally having being a human being weigh on him. He's spent 90% of his life dedicated to one specific thing: football. He's older now, likely dealing with multiple health issues even if they're minor. He has a grandkid. Unless you're just a sociopathic psycho that shite gets heavy. We all eventually question our own mortality.

Something Nick said recently about retirement sticks out to me. It's the most "human side" thing he's ever said.

quote:

“There’s a lot of things that I’d like to do,” Saban said. “What would I enjoy doing? What would I like to do? I have no idea. You’re kind of fearful of the fact that -- what if I’m not self-fulfilled and I still had years left to do this?

“Hey, we all have insecurities. When I was a kid, I used to close the closet door in my room because there’s a monster in your closet, you know that. So, you never know what’s behind the door, and that’s always a little scary. And I think the same thing, like you’re talking about with Coach Bryant, I feel the same way.”

Most seem to love him and even come back and hang out a good bit.

But I don't care what anyone wants to say, winning is fun.

I repeat: Winning is fun.

And when you have fun winning, you don't want to be around people who are less than that. That's what Saban does, he creates an environment and standard that winners recognize and want to be a part of.

If you go out and you do your job 100% all the time and the guy next to you doesn't, you are both going to resent each other.

So I imagine the ones that didn't want to buy in and put in the effort probably hate his guts. And the ones who do the work probably love him.

He got super lucky that his transformation happened right as Instagram video and Snapchat blew up.
