quote:

Auburn’s coaching staff reached out to Finley a few days after he announced his decision to transfer from LSU, and the message from first-year head coach Bryan Harsin and offensive coordinator Mike Bobo was, according to Finley, “very clear” — they want him to come in and try to compete for the starting job this fall.

“They have a new system going in, and they feel like I fit their system, and it’s a lot of things that they are telling me that are very promising,”

Looks like he wants to go somewhere he knows he can start:

quote:

“I know my capabilities, and if I feel like I can beat Bo Nix out, then I’ll go there and do what I have to do,” Finley said. “But I understand that this is a brand-new system and that these are brand new coaches, so the things that have gone on in the past are really not my concern right now because Bo has to learn a brand-new offense with a new offensive head coach coming in and a new offensive coordinator, so those are none of my concerns.”

I'm pretty sure they think he has a better chance of pushing Bo than anyone on the roster.

They think he can push Bo and they think if Bo gets hurt, he is much better than who we have on the roster. The true freshman we have is talented, but he isn't ready for big time CFB yet.

Competition is good. Let them battle it out.

Also, FWIW, let it be known Bo Nix lead Auburn demolished TJ Finley lead LSU last year. Obviously there was an age difference in there.

Why not bring in a talented but raw player with starting SEC experience that will technically still be a true freshman?

Would you want Bo Nix as your starting QB?

Coach talk. The plan is Nix will declare after this year and to get Finley ready for 2022.

Nix is better. Probably looking for depth. We have zero

I added another quote at the top and here. He seems he wants to start right away:

Depth with potential of Nix going pro
Quicker path to playing time compared to LSU

Physical tools are there with Finley
Just needs to limit mistakes
Jamarcus Russell was same way early in his career
He also kind of reminds me of the QB from Ohio St Cardale Jones

The higher ups at Auburn would never let Finley start over Nix unless Nix is injured.

It doesn’t matter what anyone thinks about Bo vs TJ. Bo is a legacy player and TJ is not.
