Did Scott Stricklin really pass on Kermit Davis for Rick Ray?

Yeah-after Kermit had driven halfway from Tennessee with his family in tow for the interview, Stricklin called him and told him to turn around because State had their man.
Thanks, State!

Yup! His previous recruiting issues/infractions were a big part of it. The other part is really just "loafers" aka Scott Stricklin.
Kermit's done a great job for ya'll this year though, and I think has been solid over his career.

LSU passed on Kermit for Johnny fricking Jones.

Rick Ray is probably the worst major-sport hire of the past decade but AK did leave his respective program in much better shape than Stans did

LOL at saying a State AD was worried about recruiting after Richard Williams and Rick Stansbury

We don’t speak this devilish name you speak of. Not sure who this is...

Former Mississippi State quarterback John Bond threw shade at Stricklin tonight saying he put kermit together with the right people at State twice and they didn't hire Kermit.
Should be noted Bond grew up in Starkville next door to Kermit and they are good friends.

Richard Williams and Rick Stansbury had 2 year show causes from the NCAA?
Wow, first I've heard of that.
Kermit, on the other hand....

So this is another John Bond, not the famed MSU QB from Valdosta, GA.?

For some reason, Johnny Jones always looked like a crossdresser to me...

Same John Bond. Bond's Dad worked at Mississippi State before leaving for Valdosta State University. Bond lived in Starkville until they moved. That's one of the reasons State got John because of his ties to State. That and a nice shiny Black Corvette.

I didn't understand this either. I remember thinking that surely we would offer him the job. I didn't know about his prior NCAA violations until later, but that was 20 years in the past at that point. He had no issues at MTSU. Someone influential at State must have ruled him out because I don't know any State fans that would have had a problem with him getting the job.

He still doesn't have a winning season yet.

I miss seeing his two boys hanging around the huddle during timeouts.
