South Dakota? Really? The people I've met from the Dakotas were hard as woodpecker lips.

I guess you thought he was from Washington.

I had a conversation about this and DeBoer with my cousin. If you have a wimp in a leadership position things will get shitty rapidly. And, that is what's going on at Bama. We no longer have a leader of the football program.

When the players have WAYYYYYY more control out of the clear blue, coaches that are hard asses are going to have a very difficult time. The roles have changed in college football. The coach now needs to court their players all the time and be in a positive relationship with them.

The whole game has changed. For better or for worse.

It is good to have a new coach come in and be totally different than what everyone's used to. No sense in following the GOAT while trying to act like him. Everyone's gonna know you're a fraud.

Just be yourself. Mute the noise. Focus on that playbook and scheming, and learn to control team psychology in new/clever ways.

I don't think people truly have any idea how different this sport got the second players could transfer if they weren't paid enough to their liking. The game we knew and loved is absolutely no more. We can cry about it, but in time, if we wanna stop crying about it... we have to understand it, first.

So far it's not as bad as it was back in the 80's when everyone complained constantly talking about "What Bear would have done".

Saban’s shadow won’t stretch as long as the Bear’s. Society doesn’t have the attention span for that anymore. I guess that’s a good thing for Alabama, because the “way Bear would’ve done it” mindset extended all the way to Dubose or so

Earlier in the year when I heard Milrose state" Ya, I didn't celebrate on that TD , and Coach Deboer called me over and asked why I didn't?".

Milrose stated we werent allowed to do any kind of dance or anything after a TD. Coach Saban didn't like that.

He then told Milrose to do it and have fun!

I knew that was the end when I read that!

Those were the quotes from Milrose.

Man this sure does remind me of Derek Dooley’s “shower discipline”.

Until there is a price to be paid for players fricking up and doing stupid things the program will continue to go down hill.
Coach only has so long to do the right thing and then it will be taken over by someone else.

Well that's the state he came from but I did not know he was born in SD. My bad. But to live in a state like that you have to be somewhat whack lol. No wonder his family doesn't like Alabama.

I've been in management for 40 years. It's always better to start out a hard arse and soften up if your employees earn it. If you start soft and then try to tighten up, almost never works.

I think CKD did the later and it's going to be hard to tighten the reins now.
This right here ^^
In my experience it backfires every time. Of course once DeBoer has a team of at least 80% "his players" things could start swinging the way they should be.

We faced a DeBoer coached Washington 2 seasons in a row, and they didn't come across as an undisciplined team to me.

This is why you don’t want to follow the legend. You will never replicate the results, and any difference in approach gets identified as why you aren’t meeting the old standards.

Eventually, the coach ends up chasing his tail over things like tucked in shirts and isn’t even running the program his way anymore. At that point, whatever success they had that got them hired in the first place starts to fall away since are beholden to the boosters/admin/fanbase outcry.

Alabama is still favored to win this weekend. I think the line is 14.

Also, he’s built winning programs at every level. I highly doubt building a culture is his issue.

His issue is the qb room he inherited and the defense adapting to a new scheme.

Since NIL started.

Nick Saban literally got up in front of congress and told everyone he retired because it went from being about developing players into better people/players to how much money will you give me.

Also, what’s up with calling him liberal when he’s from the Plains? The rumor in Seattle was he couldn’t stand it there.

Or maybe Doboer just doesn't have enough backbone for this conference.

Seems he runs a really loose ship.

DeBoer didn't build Sioux Falls.
