Just days after the Commodores clinched a trip to Omaha for the College World Series, Vanderbilt outfielder Matt Hogan has reportedly entered the transfer portal, according to Robbie Weinstein of 247Sports.
Hogan has largely been a reserve player for the Commodores, and this season has appeared in 19 games with 13 at-bats. He has scored four runs on two hits, and has a double with an RBI. Last season, Hogan made six appearances off the bench, and as a freshman in 2019 came in during four games. He’s played in 29 games over three seasons for the Vandy Boys.
Hogan is a product of Half Hallow Hills East in Plainview, N.Y.
On his team bio, here’s how coach Tim Corbin describes Hogan:
“Beloved by his teammates. Would drop anything to help anyone at anytime. His personality and his approach to life make the environment very pleasing. His physical tools are above average in every department. His refinement of the game is where Matt continues to focus his attention. His care level for what he is doing and his energy to do it, is uncanny. Everyone roots for this guy.”

13 at bats tells the story.

I believe the deadline is July 1. Baseball is running out of time. Hopefully, it gets extended.

Ahh, good info.
That certainly might explain the odd timing.

can't blame him, although the timing is a little weird. I assume he's not on the travel rister for Omaha

That's dumb. So if the CWS championship series runs from June 28-30, they're giving players the day of game 3 as the last day to enter the portal.

The one-time exception had been previously available to some athletes, just not those in football, basketball, baseball and men's ice hockey. Now it will be available to all athletes who have not yet transferred, starting with the 2021-22 academic year.

NCAA panel formally approves new transfer rules
This year, the date for all athletes to notify their current schools that they intend to transfer is July 1. Those dates will shift to May 1 for fall and winter sport athletes and July 1 for spring sport athletes in subsequent years.
The one-time exception will count for athletes who transfer after graduating. Previously, NCAA rules permitted athletes who had graduated to transfer and be immediately eligible.

SDS - he has "reportedly" entered the transfer portal??
so there's no basic proof on record?
so Corbin leaked this to hurt the kid

you idiot
a kid forgoing a degree from Vanderbilt, that's a signal of a problem there
I'll assume it revolves around Corbin not being honest with the kid back some time ago

I’m sure this helped him make his decision. He was used as a late game defensive replacement this year. Wish he could have had more ABs.

IDK, like lsufball1 speculated, he's probably not on the travel roster, but it makes you wonder if he could've simultaneously met the looming deadline and at least stayed with the team for the next week.
(That is, not leaking any news about it yet.)

Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd was formed in Jacksonville, Florida in 1964.
On October 20, 1977, a plane carrying the band between shows from Greenville, South Carolina, to Baton Rouge, Louisiana ran out of fuel outside Gillsburg, Mississippi. The passengers had been informed about potential problems with the Convair CV-240 and were told to brace for a crash.
Lead vocalist Ronnie Van Zant died on impact from head injuries suffered after the aircraft struck a tree. Bandmates Steve Gaines and Cassie Gaines, along with assistant road manager Dean Kilpatrick, pilot Walter McCreary, and co-pilot William Gray, were also killed. The rest of the band was seriously injured.
Van Zant was 29 years old.
According to former bandmate Artimus Pyle and family members, Van Zant frequently discussed his mortality. Pyle recalls a moment when Lynyrd Skynyrd was in Japan: "Ronnie and I were in Tokyo, Japan, and Ronnie told me that he would never live to see 30 and that he would go out with his boots on, in other words, on the road. I said, 'Ronnie, don't talk like that,' but the man knew his destiny."
Van Zant's father noted, "He said to me many times, 'Daddy, I'll never be 30 years old.' I said, 'Why are you talking this junk? You will never be 30 years old?’ and he said, 'Daddy, that's my limit.'"
Ex-bandmate Ed King also reported that Van Zant had said it so often that he "had gotten sick of hearing it."
Backup singer JoJo Billingsley recalled that Van Zant had begun referring to himself as "The Mississippi Kid" in the months before his death, despite being born and raised in Florida. She noted that, eerily, Van Zant's only connection to Mississippi was the fact that he would ultimately die there.

Oh no, it's so much worse, July 1 is the last day you can sign scholarship papers in baseball.
That is not the deadline to say you are transferring, that is the deadline to join a team.

He's been with Vandy for three years. He may very well be on pace to graduate this summer for all we know. It's not a signal of "problem" that a 3 year bench player wants to transfer so he can actually have the chance to play somewhere. He was a high school all-american. I'm sure he still wants to have a shot of playing pro ball, something that won't happen if he's sitting on the bench.
