Darren Rovell on Twitter:
Big 10 source: “There’s no path forward that medically is safe. Hope we can all realize this as the season should have been called a month ago. No decisions today.”

Football players face a risk of injury every time they step on the field. Sometimes permanent injury. Sometimes fatal. They choose NOW to bring up "medically safe"? If that's the case, football should never be played again in the future.

There is no path forward ever then because this virus isn't going anywhere... even with a vaccine tens of thousands will die. That's how many die of the flu even with a vaccine.

Oh come on. This is just getting ridiculous. One journalist with a "source" trying to top another.

Stop with the flu nonsense, 162,000 have already died since March. This thing is running through people in the Summer with temps 95-100 degrees like Crap through a goose (to quote the line from the Movie Patton). What happens in the fall when normal virus season starts, and you have the normal flu season which we know how to treat and have vaccines for and still have 12,000 to 60,000 deaths from the flu each year. I think the number was 18,000 last flu season.

Stop just stop.

A recent survey showed Americans believe that 9-10% of the population have died from Covid. That’s 28-29 million more than have actually died. This hysteria is absolutely ridiculous. People like you need to calm down and realize everything will be fine.

Pump in fan noise, play the games. It’s not hard.

No path forward that doesn’t open us up to huge liability because the players won’t sign waivers.

Well that is 10% who are ignorant of the facts. I never said 28 million have died, I said 162,000 which is what Johns Hopkins is reporting as of this morning.

It is easy for all who sit and say play ball. College players don't have the ability to negotiate play terms like Professional athletes can via players reps negotiating terms.

College Presidents probably went to the their Medical teams and Legal Counsel and were told too much risks. That is the reality. Privately, Governors in red states are probably being told the same thing.

Did you see the MS Governors statement last week. We are talking about a MS Republican for the record. He gave a statewide mask wearing mandate and said basically, if MS folks want College and HS football, then Mask must be worn, social distancing needs to happen to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. I noticed months ago he was not wearing a Mask in public, now he is and I think he has already delayed the start of school.

That is MS, not California.

Football isn’t a medically safe game to begin with.

God damn we have multiple career/season every week across the entire sport.

Brother, Covid isn’t going anywhere and it damn sure doesn’t matter if you wear a mask or a complete Mopp4 set, mainly because people have absolutely no idea how to A. Properly wear one and B. Cannot stop touching their mask. Science backs that to the fullest. Even if they came over the emergency broadcast and said everyone by law must wear a mask and stay at home, millions would frick it up.

the game itself, since its inception, has NEVER been medically safe...the damn sport was almost banned from the amount of deaths in the beginning...

They’re seriously going to cave from this. I stupidly believed otherwise.

And when COVID is still a thing months from now, what, do we cancel 2021 Basketball, Baseball, Softball? Will there still be protests in the street while we aren’t able to go to a movie theater or football game?

Do we ever get back to normal life? Someone tell me what the endgame is here? Because there is an obvious conclusion any reasonable person can come to.
