Dan Mullen vs Jimbo Fisher: The two biggest SEC hires of 2018

Who do you think will have the most success, long term at their respective programs?
Personally, I feel like Jimbo could have A&M up and running like a well oiled machine by year 3. But something tells me Mullen will have the Gators near Urban-style dominance relatively soon as well.
Kirby vs Mullen
Jimbo vs Saban/Dabo
The SEC could have some amazing coaching matchups in the very near future. Circa 2007-2013 SEC.

One of those teams will definitely be in DAN the playoffs in the next few years.

Mullen has an easier path to success IMO.
UGA is all there is in the East and UF is easier to recruit to than A&M IMO. Both talent rich states, but one is the big dog and one is not.

Mullen doesn't recruit well enough to have Florida at Urban-level. And with FSU and Georgia to recruit against, along with Richt at Miami and Kiffin down the road, recruiting is a lot tougher at Florida than it used to be.
I speak from experience as a MSU fan. Mullen is a lazy recruiter, and a lot of the guys he took with him (particularly Hevesy on the o-line) are pretty bad recruiters.
He is a good coach when he's motivated, but he has a problem staying motivated.
You saw evidence of this with his first recruiting class.

I don't see it
Texas only has 1 other premier program while Florida has 2
they both have a decent number quality of 2nd tier programs

Neither coach has any excuses both Programs invest in football and have an outstanding recruiting base. I’m not sure either lives up to expectations. Mullen has to find a way to outrecruit Kirby, and win games against elite competition, and Jimbo has to wake up every morning look at his checking account and ask himself if it’s worth working that hard today, he’s getting paid regardless. Neither program is guaranteed to be better off.

Florida is the big dog? With a resurgent Miami, a recruiting machine at FSU, and growing programs at UCF, USF, and FAU? With Georgia coming into the state and cherry picking?
Dan will be squarely on the hot seat by year three. The administration and fanbase at MSU put up with a lot of BS that the administration and fanbase at Florida will not be willing to do.

Why does A&M get a 3-4 year grace period every time they hire a new coach? After Sumlin lost to only LSU & Florida (both at home) in his first year, Aggy was guaranteeing conference & national titles "in the next few years".
They have the "best stadium & facilities", are the only SEC program in a Top 5 talent producing state, and just bought a national title winning coach for 75mil guaranteed. It's not like Jimbo is starting over from scratch, they had plenty of Top 10 recruiting classes with Rumlin in charge.
Low expectations = less repercussions
The Aggy way.

Excellent points on Mullen!
I can see some faults in both coaches on a professional level which could cause them to fall flat on their faces. I would prefer that not to happen for the conference’s sake.

You are not wrong so far Mullen is way behind for the 2019 class. He has some time but without top 5 classes we’ll never be where we were. I don’t think Mullen has it in him to recruit consistent top 5 classes, I hope I’m wrong.

Mullen isn’t the recruiter that Meyer is. Urban dominated the East Coast and Florida while he was there.
A&M has so much potential but they’ve never lived up to it. It’s possible but I truly think Jimbo will have similar success as Harbaugh at Michigan. Very good teams, great recruits but I don’t see them challenging Bama for the crown. Maybe though, god knows the potential is there.

Mullen doesn't recruit well enough to have Florida at Urban-level. You saw this in his first recruiting class.
He stole a WR from Ohio State/Miami.
He stole another from Miami.
He stole a QB from OSU as well.
Beat out Alabama for Copeland.
Beat out Alabama for Langham. (It's possible that Alabama wouldn't take either of them, but that's what everyone says)
Chatfield from Miami.
I don't even want to go down the list of the guys he beat out from other schools because it doesn't matter.
In four months he arrived at a school with a losing record, and in those four months he managed to sign the highest class of his HC tenure (9 years at MSU) on a transition season with a team that had a terrible season.
MSU isn't an inspiring school to recruit at, and really there aren't very many good pitches you can make recruits. There are two possibilities: Mullen is a bad recruiter, or MSU is just a shitty school to recruit regarding football.
I'm going with the latter, since he signed a higher class with just 19 commitments.

Well this is certainly an orange-and-blue-glasses take on things. Many in your own fanbase disagree with you, though.
I guess you will have to learn the hard way. It's gonna be a bumpy ride.

CDM has the longer term chance for success provided the Gator Nation is patient (hint : they are not). So he will probably get the ax before he has a chance to become successful.
He gets pilloried for his recruiting but it is not actually all that bad.
Jimbo at A&M , I am not sure about this. I just don’t think he is going to be any better than Sumlin. My opinion only though.
We will see.

Why was his highest class ever signed on a transition year to a team that just experienced a losing season with only 19 commitments?
Refute that.
Sorry your school is trash, baw.
