Dan Enos ghosted Saban

quote:
Four days later in Tuscaloosa, Alabama was about to have its regular morning football staff meeting when Saban noticed someone was missing. “Hey, where’s Dan?” Saban asked staffers, according to people with knowledge of the meeting, in reference to Dan Enos, the Tide’s quarterbacks coach who had just been promoted to become Alabama’s new offensive coordinator.
quote:
Enos’ stock had soared in Saban’s eyes, from all accounts inside the Tide program. Saban was counting on Enos as Alabama would again have to navigate a staggering amount of staff turnover, even by Saban standards. After the 2017 season the Tide brought on six new assistant coaches. Both Locksley and Key were gone back to their home bases immediately after the 2018 season, as expected. Josh Gattis, the up-and-coming wideouts coach and co-offensive coordinator, had left the day before the staff meeting to take the offensive coordinator job at Michigan.
quote:
That same day Enos’ name had surfaced as a candidate for offensive coordinator openings at Georgia and Miami. But at Alabama, Enos was getting handed the keys to the most explosive collection of skill talent the Tide has ever had: the phenom quarterback and Heisman Trophy runner-up Tua Tagovailoa, two five-star running backs and a quartet of blazing fast wideouts that led the country in big plays by a wide margin. However, there was no sign of Enos when the staff meeting was about to start. “Where the F#$% is Dan?!?”
quote:
Several of the staffers knew the answer to their boss’ question. Word had already spread that the 50-year-old Enos was headed to Miami to become offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach under Manny Diaz. No one in the room wanted to be the one to break that news to Saban, even though Miami was primed to announce it in a couple hours.
quote:
One staffer scrambled to check if Enos was in his office. It was empty, save for a pencil on the desk. Maybe he’d already moved into Locksley’s old office, but that one was empty too. “He moved out like the Colts,” said one person with knowledge of the matter, equating Enos’ departure to the middle of the night exit by the old Baltimore NFL franchise to Indianapolis.

He must be a miserable prick to work for if he is getting disrespected like this.

Weird, Bama fans told me Saban’s philosophy clashed with Enos and told him to look around. Not sure who to believe

He was never actually chosen as offensive coordinator. He might have been eventually, and I think he'll be a good one at Miami, but Saban never gave him that job title.

That's some cold blooded ish right there. He probably knew an arse chewing was coming and he wasn't in the mood for it.

I don't think he told Enos to look around, but the fact he never actually gave him the job, though he knew for a few weeks Locksley was gone, kind of indicates he may have been looking for another OC, though I am sure he'd have liked for Enos to remain as QB coach.
for the record, I think it was a mistake for Saban not to have already made him OC

This article is such bullshite. They can’t even get facts straight. He was never made OC. Rest of article is suspect.

Think Saban wanted to keep Enos and Gattis, the rest were told to kick rocks

I don't think he wanted Key to go, but the guy played at Ga. Tech, so it's understandable imo

Didn't want to get yelled at for a half hour.

When asked about the offensive coordinator promotion at Alabama during the team’s Media Day at the Orange Bowl semifinal last month, Enos neither confirmed nor denied the report.
“We haven’t discussed any of that stuff yet,” Enos said.

quote:Yep, Saban should've officially named Enos OC when Locksley took the Maryland HC job, IF Saban wanted Enos to run the O. If not, then Enos was free game for any OC position that came calling.

Eh, if he didnt want to be here it's best long term for both parties that he moved on.
He gets full control at Miami and Sark has a very similar skillset in terms of OC/QB. The way it went down was awkward and clumsy but it's better for both if he truly wanted to move on than him spending a discontented year here.

yep. Saban is a great coach. Arguably the best college coach ever, but he isn't infallible. I think that was a mistake, I think not playing Tua by the Auburn game last year was a mistake, and I think Tua should have played a little more in the blowout games this year. I also think it might have helped him if he'd been sat on the bench a few times to "encourage him" to check down more often rather than going for the long ESPN highlight type throws.

People will choose to believe what they most want to believe.

maybe he felt dissed that he didn't already get the job. After taking the Miami job, though, he did mention that balancing job with family was important. No crime in that.
