Curious, seeing Coach O being thrown under the bus

By LSU fans on here. Many are stating they never liked the hire.
I was not on the rant back when he was hired by LSU.
This question is for non LSU fans.
Were there posts by them back then stating it was a bad hire? I’m just curious bc I’m not seeing any posts concerned with Kelly. Who knows how the Kelly hire will go. If it doesn’t go well, I’m going to chuckle if he starts getting similar treatment as coach O now.

The melt was bad when he was hired

There was a total flip flop. Some of the most outspoken douchebags on here like to constantly revise history. They cried when O was hired. The 2019 came around and they tried to act like they knew he was a good hire from the start. Then 2020 came and they completely erased that version of their history and reverted back to they knew he was a terrible hire. Par for the course on here.

Almost every other thread at the time. Many people had a cautious wait and see approach because he absolutely sucked at ole miss and was roundly dismissed at USC.
There were posters that never liked him, hated his corny, motivational one liners, and felt he was totally fricking up everything, especially in the 17 season.
Most people were quieted a little in 18 when the team ultimately won 10 games and then 19 where the greatest team had the greatest season of all time but a large portion of the fanbase felt that was due to Aranda and Joe Brady more so than O.

I've never melted harder than when Orgeron was hired.

It’s really hard to call someone a shitty coach during a stretch that achieved a 10 win, BCS bowl winning season followed by a 15-0 GOAT team and season run.
However, many still didn’t like O, most hated his extension in 19 as nobody was coming for him, I absolutely hated the Pelini hire, and it became obvious very quickly O, the staff, and the program changed overnight

The 2020 and 2021 seasons verified that Joe Burrow was not only the best college player in 2019 but also one of the best coaches in college football.

There wasn’t , I cannot recall, any wild cheering for O.
I think there was plenty of wait and see and enough of WTF to remember. But very little joy outside it was a new book from Les.

Most LSU fans thought it was a weak lazy hire by a POS AD Joe Alleva

I knew he was a terrible hire, he caught lightning in a bottle with burrow and co, hell Ron zook could have won a natty with that group.
Always thought he was a countrified hick cajon that talks like he has a mouth full of marbles.

I know you’re trolling like a child but I’ll go ahead and give you an actual response.
I hated the hire when it happened but he grew on me starting in 2017 after the Troy loss. He turned that season around and finished strong then had a solid 2018 season. Midway through 2018 I was thinking wow he proved us wrong then 2019 came. As great of a team that was, he let the success get to his head and took too much credit. He lost his hunger. He should have thought wow I’m lucky but instead he thought wow look at what I did.
Ultimately that was his demise. At the end of the day, he won LSU a national title and will be remembered for that. He left the roster in bad shape but he doesn’t have a scandal tarnishing his legacy the way Les does.
O is cool in my book but I’m glad we moved on when we did and it looks like Kelly is going to bring stability to LSU. Something we haven’t had in a very long time.

I was very surprised and underwhelmed.
Five minutes later I accepted it and moved on. Said, “whelp, he’s my coach now”.

Do you not understand why O is being thrown under the bus? Yeah he won a natty, props to him for that, but two years later and the team is in disarray.
The dude won a natty, got a monster contract, then coasted on a mix of red bulls and hot blondes for two years.

I never did like the hire. Hell, I thought Skip was nuts for hiring Saban. LOL

No one thought he was worthy of the hire at the time. Most people had a "we'll see" attitude. Then he won a Championship and we all thought we were wrong. Then he cratered the team and we all were like "at least he won us a Championship" before the ship went down. Now we just make fun of him.

It changed. At first it was this is terrible. He was expected to stay out of the way, be the rah-rah guy and let his coaches coach. Not sure what O was actually supposed to do but that was the deal.
He wins the championship and loses coordinators. Ed had stayed out of the way, didn't involve himself in gameplanning, just showed up on the sidelines and LSU fans believed this was part of the formula. Another part of the formula was that he had a 20 something year old staff and THAT was the difference. They were young, could change on the fly so if he just brought in young guys 2019 would repeat itself. Then it didn't and now LSU fans are just bring in good coaches. They were right, there is a formula.
Great Head Coach who lays out what he wants IN DETAIL
Expect your coordinators to carry out your plan
Get good players
Have the respect of the team and staff
Dont listen to the fans (Ed did this way too much)
Stay injury free
Have a plan, a philosophy that you stick by and that everyone in the organization understands what you expect.
Ed wasn't near enough involved in what a head Coach should be doing. The head coach should be the best coach on the staff.

LSU fans despised Joe Alleva and thought the Orgeron hire was lazy. The ongoing jokes about Ed's "binder" were worn and a large chunk of their fans weren't happy.
He later endeared himself and proved a lot of folks wrong with that 2019 season. Then he handled the Covid/BLM phase oddly and seemed to have lost his focus & couldn't reel it back in as players opted out, etc. The Pelini hire sent things down hill fast.

1000000000% this.
I was on the "give him a chance" side, but still can admit that the hire was lazy as frick. It rivals Bo Pelinis hiring as DCoordinator on the laziness scale.

Not trolling bud, I was curious bc maybe I have missed them. But I have not seen any mention of Concern for the Kelly hire on here. Maybe there has been by a few posters stating concerns and I didn’t see the posts.
I’m also surprised of some of the attacks on Coach O. Right or wrong, he was the coach that put together the team and coaching staff that won it all in 2019. Just figured the praise of him would cool down but the bashing him would not take place bc of 2019. Anyway, thanks for the insight.
