The Winter Olympics are so much smaller than the Summer Olympics that smaller, resort towns can handle it. Albertville, France. Lillehammer, Norway. Had anyone heard of these towns before the Winter Olympics went there?
yeah, in SEC country.... non of the school towns have the infrastructure; only St. Louis, Orlando, Birmingham, New Orleans, Tampa, Atlanta or Miami could realistically launch a serious bid though I could see an SEC school's facilities being used (like Bama for Birmingham or LSU for New Orleans)
as for the winter Olympics.... man, Cleveland could host those suckers

For what it's worth Atlanta is the home to Georgia Tech who USED to be in the SEC.
There is no way a current SEC city would ever host the Olympics, ever.
The Olympic committee could pick the top 1000 cities and no SEC cities would be on the list.
A country winning the games is hard enough, and it's gonna be a huge metropolis or city with a ton of history.
It appears Chicago is the city everyone is expecting to get it the next time the games are in the US, whenever that might be.

Russians are also notorious for building shitty buildings too to cut costs and pocket what they don't spend. Bet on a hotel or two splitting down the middle during the games or collapse all together.

Funny. I bet that you'd consider Syndey, Rio, Bangkok, or Barcelona a world city, but Atlanta has a higher GDP than they do.
Dude, there's way more to hosting an Olympics than just setting up a list of of highest GDP cities and and deciding. In fact, one of the biggest complaints about the Olympics in Atlanta was that it was TOO commercialized. Further, all these metro population figures are absurd and inflated, considering there are literally parts of Alabama included in those figures. Parts. Of. Alabama.
Take a look at the list of Olympic hosts since 1980:
Moscow
Los Angeles
Seoul
Barcelona
Atlanta
Sydney
Athens
Beijing
London
Rio (2016)
Istanbul/Madrid/Tokyo (2020)
ALL of these cities, with one notable exception, are destination cities. People would take their holidays in these cities, regardless of their country of origin, with one exception. Can you guess what that exception is?

Well, Moscow, Seoul, Beijing atlanta
Without going back and reading this thread, have you listed your supposed criteria of an olympic host site yet? I am interested in seeing how your criteria compare to the actual ones

Coming from the guy who earlier said Birmingham could make a legitimate bid to host the Olympics.
Do you have to make an effort to be that stupid, or is it natural?

Well, according to an article I'll link below, the world's top 150 city destinations in 2006 included:
Seoul (9)
Moscow (21)
Beijing (22)
Atlanta (105)
The first three each had over 3 million visitors. Atlanta had less than 500,000.
Carry on.

No doubt. Tuscaloosa, Auburn, Oxford, Starkville and even Baton Rouge certainly have enough hotel rooms to host the Olympics.

Wow, so that list is the Olympic committee selection list? that’s interesting.
So are you going to provide your supposed criteria? I want to see how it compares to the actual ones. or are you just talking out of your arse and acting condescending as usual

No, idiot, it was a direct response to your comment that "Beijing, Seoul, Moscow" were not "destination" cities. Obviously I'm not going to respond to such a comment with unrelated and subjective material that in no way addresses your stupid response.

Well, maybe you should go back and read, as you'd then understand how the conversation has morphed from the OP. I'd assume with 17,000+ posts on here you have plenty of time to waste doing just that, so get back to me when you've done your homework.

So ths answer to my other comment is yes, you are talking out of your arse and acting like a condescending a-hole as usual.
Dude, get over yourself. you are one of the biggest tools on his board. you act like you are hot shite, when in reality you are dog shite. Your persona on here is to belittle people and try to prove them wrong and your opinions as correct. must be quite the life
Since you are the olympic host city expert I'd expect you to give reasons why a city is qualified from real examples of historical past rather than your beliefs, that dont really reflect reality. I get it, you dont think ATL is host material, despite the, you know, reality. Having hosted in the past, having been asked if they would be interested to host it in the future, and, hmmm, having all the qualifacations to host it, from what the olympic commitee actually wants. I doubt Atl gets another shot, but its not out of the relm of possibility. Atl is top 10 city in the US and has the means an opputunity to host it, and probably more so than most of the cities above it, in N.A.

I recently saw a survey, Memphis was rated least safe city by its own residents. I think it was around 60% felt unsafe in their own city
