Too hot and humid in Houston. It would be bad form to have those marathon runners dropping throughout the course.

I honestly think New Orleans would get a bid now before Atlanta would.

Atlanta has already hosted the Olympics, genius.

I live in Atlanta right now, and you're fricking kidding yourself if you think Atlanta is very internationally recognized. If you go to Bumfrick "anywhere outside of the United States" I guarantee most of the population has no idea what Atlanta is. Ever hear of Dongguan? How about Hyderabad? Do you know Yokohama? Guess what, all these cities have a bigger economy and population than Atlanta, and I'd bet you have never even heard of them. This is how relevant Atlanta is in the grand scheme of the world. No one outside of the US gives a frick.

Everyone has heard of Yokohama.

It's true, in a worldwide sense, Atlanta is nothing more than a connecting flight.

That was clearly my implication.

Mexico drinks the most Coke in the world. They therefore love Atlanta.

No joke. Houston's humidity is disgusting. Walking around down town when there is no breeze and shite? I'm surprised there aren't more deaths.

Made with sugar, not corn syrup though.

I bet at least 3/4s the posters here don't know it. But regardless, you got 1/3 of my cities, both of which are more populous than Yokohama.

No shite, but if it came down between the two of them to get the bid now, I think they'd go with New Orleans.

I know there were a lot of complaints about Atlantas heat, and Houston is even more uncomfortable. It would be dangerous mostly for the thousands of spectators that wouldn't be used to our weather. The Euros would suffer mightily.

Funny. I bet that you'd consider Syndey, Rio, Bangkok, or Barcelona a world city, but Atlanta has a higher GDP than they do.

They're having the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which fricking laughs at either of those cities' temperatures. I'm not putting much past the international clown judges from a practical standpoint of heat.

I grew up and live in the Houston metro and their bid a few years back was a joke. They proposed holding the rowing events at this municipal water supply reservoir near Texas City:

Seriously. The complex at the top left is an Ashland Chemical Refinery. Not the most photogenic spot for the World to see. Can't understand why Houston didn't get picked?

Oh yeah, and for the Dallas folks

Qatar has no humidity though. Houston is worse than Qatar.

Meh. There are like 100 or something cities in China over a million people. The metro Jackson area is like half a million? Johnny Cash still wrote about that city in a song once upon a time, so I'm sure in Europe and stuff more people know about it than some crappy Chinese city.
