The London games cost 14 billion. Nashville doesn't have that kind of money. You people are retarded.

Wouldn't cost that much here because we have a lot of the facilities already in Nashville area. It cost London so much primarily because they had to just about build everything. And they gay-arse opening ceremony.

We don't understand Yankee humor.

I do appreciate your self-deprecating style though.

Oh I like the long term plan DART has.

however who knows if that ever gets finished with Perry and (insert future Texas Gov) always pulling political stunts like denying federal money that we could really use for infrastructure.

Plus, I really think the only way Arlington would ever vote for DART to come through is if something the scale of the Olympics was to use Jerry World.

Like I said, I wasn't arguing against any other city. I was just saying that Atlanta is a world city.

As far as Fortune 500, Atlanta has

(34) Home Depot
(53) United Parcel Service
(57) Coca-Cola
(83) Delta Air Lines
(171) Southern Company
(214)Genuine Parts
(239) SunTrust Banks
(254) First Dat
(272) AGCO
(291) Rock-Tenn
(330) HD Supply
(339) Coca-Cola Enterprises
(441) NCR
(433) Newell Rubermaid

Luckily there's a whole thing to determine how global a city is.

Atlanta and Dallas are both Alpha Minus cities along with Miami, Boston, and Philadelphia.

Washington, San Francisco, and Los Angeles are Alpha.

Chicago is Alpha Plus.

New York is Alpha Plus Plus

Also SEC cities/cities in SEC states: Houston is Beta Plus, St. Louis is Beta Minus, Tampa and Kansas City are Gamma, Austin is Gamma Minus.

Everybody else sucks.

I mean I think the only true way for DART to be effective, and well implemented on the scale it needs would be is to get the high speed rail built from Dallas to Houston. DART isn't a cheap venture, and given how spread out everything is, the piece meal way they have started to implemented is no more than a novelty to get to a Mavs game.

oh man if it ever went to Houston that would be shite.

Of course I'm sure DFW International, Love Field, Houston Hobby, Houston Intercontinental, and all the airlines stationed there would lobby the hell out of getting that stopped.

They did in the 90s, and the huge capital costs of a such a project need government backing. It might never happen, but the latest I heard was a japanese firm trying something that connected in weird places. I'm of the belief that you don't fight progress... and given the economies of Dallas and Houston... flight or train, there is a massive amount of commerce between the two... so why not?

This got me to thinking about when I went to the Worlds Fair in Knoxville TN years ago. Do they even still have a Worlds Fair. I cannot think of the last time I heard of one.

I think it's mostly a developing nation/secondary European and Asian city type thing lately.

frick no. Even Nashville isn't big enough to have the Olympics, and every other town sure as shite couldn't host one. People who think so clearly don't know the amount of preparation that go into the event.

Only Nashville, possibly Knoxville. There aren't enough hotel rooms in any other cities

I almost fell out of my chair laughing. Knoxville? Really? Do you have any idea the minimal that it would take to host an Olympic game? Jackson Mississippi is as likely (if not more) to get a bid to host the Olympics.

I've got to disagree with you on the international cache'. Atlanta has enough fortune 500's to pull in global commerce. And it also has the busiest airport to boot. Atlanta isn't New York. But it absolutely is an international city.

Ask an Asian about Atl, and they'll come up almost blank. They'll be able to talk about NYC, Washington, San Fran, or LA, but they won't be able to tell you one damn thing about Atl. I like Atlanta, but it's certainly not one of our most recognizable cities. I honestly think New Orleans would get a bid now before Atlanta would.

Jackson? So... both have absolutely zero chance ever?

You're fricking kidding yourself if you think Atlanta is very internationally recognized. If you go to Bumfrick "anywhere outside of the United States" I guarantee most of the population has no idea what Atlanta is. Ever hear of Dongguan? How about Hyderabad? Do you know Yokohama? Guess what, all these cities have a bigger economy and population than Atlanta, and I'd bet you have never even heard of them. This is how relevant Atlanta is in the grand scheme of the world. No one outside of the US gives a frick.
