More than 50 class action lawsuits are expected to be filed by former coddled football players that did nothing with their opportunities and scholarships and are now looking for another quick buck due to their own choices and not understanding the consequences of their lifestyles.
Basically every school that suited up a football team will at some point be hit with a concussion lawsuit.
I think the NCAA should be broken up, but not by something like this where the inherent risks are obvious and understood and well compensated for. If you didn't make the NFL like you thought you were going to, that's on you for not taking full advantage of the opportunities the school afforded you during your collegiate career and afterwards.

As many as 50 class-action lawsuits contesting how the NCAA, major college football conferences or individual schools handled concussions will be filed in the coming months by former players seeking damages for lingering brain injuries and ailments.
quote:
The reason that we're bringing so many of them instead of one giant one is because the NCAA successfully argued to the court that we shouldn't be allowed to bring just one big case," Edelson said Wednesday. "Because of that we have to file suit on a per school basis." The first six lawsuits were filed by players who played for Georgia, Auburn, Vanderbilt, Oregon, Utah and Penn State. The former football players claim problems ranging from loss of memory and cognitive function to dementia.

I'm really tired of this shite. These kids know what they are playing. Don't want to risk a concussion? DONT PLAY FOOTBALL!!!! Nobody forces these people to play football. Salaries in the NFL are very good to justify the risk. There is a reason underwater welder a are paid well. It's because of the risk. Don't want the risk? Don't play the game.

You might have a point if these college players were actually paid. That being said, the impact of concussions to long term mental and physical health is a relatively new discovery. I have a hard time faulting the players.
As far as the game is concerned, just wear rugby helmets and the problem is solved.

Pretty much this. Don't act like you "didn't know" either. It's common sense that these types of injuries will happen.

Bunch of dumb welfare cases who would have never gone to college to begin with are now suing universities for giving them a free education to play football

Except many of them are playing for the chance of getting paid.

If its so new and not understand then how can you fault the universities?

Exactly!!!
I have a great job as it is. I 100% understand the concussion risk.
But I'd still quit my job without a second thought if I had the opportunity (aka talent/youth/etc) to play football for a living.

If the do get paid, they should be required to repay the university for services rendered while they attended including tuition, books, meal plans, room and board, etc.....

You obviously have no experience with juries. If not for judges and appellate courts, they would hold LSU liable for concussions to Tech players and think they made the "right" decision.
