Here's my melt:

Alabama had the most impressive program accomplishment in history. However, the 2019 & 2020 seasons aren't comparable (and I don't necessarily mean in favor of LSU).

We have no way of comparing this year's SEC to last's. Other than there were no truly great defenses this year like, say, Georgia's in 2019, and that many players and inferior programs faced issues with playing and practicing compared to a normal year. This is also what makes Bama's season so impressive as they weren't exempt from these issues.

We have no way to measure the effect of home and away games in empty vs packed stadiums. It's just different, especially when weighing QB play. Mac Jones crumbled under the pressure of Jordan Hare in 2019 whereas he faced no pressure of SEC away games in any environment in 2020. Part of what made Joe Burrow so laudable was his composure on the biggest stage. JV football game attendance made even the biggest stage fairly scrimmage-esque.

The seniority of Bama's 2020 team is what weathered the COVID storm most programs couldn't. Playing 10 SEC games is impressive. However, the idea that 2019 LSU would have been affected by adding Kentucky, Tennessee, Missouri, etc. to their resume is absurd.

Anyway, congrats Alabama on arguably the greatest season ever. I'm mad and upset so i guess enjoy that.

I guess if you consider throwing for 300+ yards with 4/2 td/int as crumbling under pressure

Since you're comparing how Mac did in big games the year before the natty, riddle me this: what were Joe Burrow's stats against Bama in 2018?

Well that's fricking convenient don't you think?

To just arbitrarily take out the best road win on the schedule.

How bout this, I'll take out last night's victory from bamas 2020 schedule. HA! There! See, no national championship!

That was easy

*apart from that away game in one of college football's most difficult environments against the #2 team in the nation, you had it easy!

The point being that Road fans only mattered twice for LSU last year. Credit to them they went in and beat a great Bama team and a good Texas team on the road but it wasnt some crazy road schedule.

There is a tradeoff to the no fans argument. LSU had 2 fairly close home games against Auburn and Florida with a full death valley behind them. Bama had to play 2 top-8 teams at home with little crowd help. Won both by 17+

The idea that 2018 Burrow and 2019 Mac Jones were given remotely similar tools for success is probably the funniest shite I've read.

I'm so sorry that Burrow crumbled under the pressure of playing Bama at home in 2018. Clearly means his 2019 season is tainted.

I didn't say Mac's season was tainted. 2019 Mac had more weapons at reciever than he did this year, so he was clearly set up for great success and threw two pick six's on the road, ruining Bama's playoff chances in 2019. That's the only conventional sample size of Mac in a traditional environment.

As for Burrow, the 2018 LSU team didn't have Ruggs, Jeudy, Smith, Waddle, etc. so he wasn't necessarily set up for success or put in a place to compete with an elite Bama squad.

Excluding beating the #3 team on their field that had a 30 game home win streak!

And forget that SECCG with 80% UGAy fans!

One's defense gave up 34 points and lost by 3; one's defense gave up 20 points and won by 3.

Thanks for this thread, though. I never would have otherwise realized that Mac Jones had a better statistical game against the SEC's best defense in 2019 on the road in his second career start than Burrow did at home in his 19th. Oof.
