whether because they had a losing record or are on a ban...do they get any of the bowl money from the other teams in their conference?

Is all of the money sent to the Sec office then doled out equally?

That's what I'm thinking. Especially if you are banned from postseason play because of cheating etc. You get to take the month off, dont have to pay for your team to go out of town, and then you get millions for not playing???

they get a % and the other half goes to the conference and is given to everyone equally, something along those lines.

they do not get the percentage from the bowl payout from the conference if due to probation so LSU does not get their share this year because of the reason they opted out

Teams that don't qualify because of losing record do get a share though

Auburn won't get share of NCAA basketball tourney

Thanks for the info. Just would seem more of an incentive to not cheat if you didnt get paid.

IIRC, You keep a portion of your own bowl payout and the rest goes to the league office where it is divided 15 ways between the 14 schools plus the league office.

I think the only exception is if you are on a postseason ban, then they hold your share of the money until you have served the ban.

You have to also keep in mind that bowl games are losing endeavours for those that participate
Most schools break even once their bowl travel costs are factored in

The payoff comes from that share the schools share amongst each other which includes the tv money conferences receive for their bowl/playoff participation
I want to say it was about $8 million per team last year for the bowl/playoff payout and their was an article in a local paper about the money LSU lost for not participating in the bowl game this year due to self imposed ban
