Coach gets $11.7 million/year for leading a team through a rebuilding year

if you're thinking its Saban, you're right....signed on the dotted line through 2030 a contract that automatically bumps if any coach gets a higher paying contract.
Is this a "mine is bigger than your's" syndrome? Nah. Just extra moolah to be able to afford those canes and crutches lined in gold when he turns 78 at the end of his contract.
Good for Bama.

Stupid thread.
This continuous contract renewal thing for Saban is stupid. He’s gone after this year but he hasn’t told a soul he’s retiring. Bama can sign him until 2050 but it doesn’t mean a damn thing

bama gets a "rebuilding year" stamp of approval, while any other team would get continually roasted for using that as an excuse for a loss.

After the 2020 season, we lost the best QB in the nation, the best RB, the best WR, the best OT, the best center, one of the best DBs, in addition to another stud WR (six were first-round draft picks with two more in the second), not to mention the best offensive coordinator in the nation along with our OL coach. We were ranked 120th in returning production. And you think we didn’t have to totally rebuild our offense last season? In comparison, the only team in recent memory I can recall that lost as much talent was LSU after their great 2019 season; wasn’t 2020 a rebuilding year for them as well?
Bama didn’t dominate in 2021 like they did in 2020; we barely beat a not-so-good LSU team as well as a not-so-good Florida team, should’ve lost to a not-so-good Auburn team, did lose to a middle-of-the-road A&M team, and Bryce Young got sacked a lot. We played our best game of the year in the SECCG but couldn’t repeat that performance against UGA in the title game. It was a rebuilding year but that doesn’t excuse the fact that UGA was the better team last year; I don’t see why the two have to be considered mutually exclusive…

Nobody else would go to the national championship in a rebuilding year. Everybody gets mad because they know its true. What makes them mad is that Bama STILL made the championship game despite massive roster turnover from the previous year. Bama doesn't do what most teams do and win a title, then drop off to 4 or 5 losses the next year. No one, not even the knuckleheads here would look at 2021 Bama and honestly say that was a great Bama team and It was still better than most. I'll even say the only Saban teams that were worse were 07 and 2010.

Not quite. He is entitled to a review of his yearly salary if the market changes. He’s not entitled to a bump to be the highest paid coach in the country every time he falls out of that spot.
This is what his contract states
quote:
The specific language in Saban’s deal states that the Alabama coach and the university will meet annually on Feb. 1 “for so long as necessary to determine the marketplace trends regarding head football coach compensation.” Furthermore, Saban’s contract states that the Crimson Tide will be required to increase Saban’s “total guaranteed annual compensation” if it becomes less than the average of either the three highest-paid SEC coaches or the five highest-paid FBS coaches.
The hirings of Brian Kelly and Lincoln Riley reset the market averages, so pursuant to his contract, he and the Alabama AD met to evaluate the market trends.

Is there any coach that deserves to be paid more than Saban? I mean, he's the best and has earned it.
Posted on 8/23/22 at 3:31 pm to JetDawg
Not saying anyone deserves that. But Jimbo’s pay and contract is much less justified for what he hasn’t done.

And for the record, we are not rebuilding this year. We are loaded and if anyone can beat us, good on ya.

Oh so sad, somebody has their feelings hurt!
Just imagine how much he would have gotten if he won!

Another stupid worthless thread.

IMO....no. In fact, no coach is worth this kind of money. Our society's oppressive addiction to money is off the charts.
When I think of former coach/AD Vince Dooley of Georgia and his salary of $15,000 he was paid the year he was hired in 1964....and today, coaches getting $10-11 mill+ each year....if one will be truly honest, they'll agree that it's sick.
$15,000 in 1964 = $132,930 in 2022.
But, you asked for my opinion and I gave it to you.

Only a Dawg fan would say a coach that led his team to a 13 - 2 record last year went through a rebuilding year.
