I actually would argue that you can still call Clemson an Ag school today because it fits in with the other Ag schools and it remains a useful label to describe its orientation. When a person says that X is an Ag school you know precisely what they mean, a school that once focused largely on agriculture and has now shifted to a focus on engineering while retaining their once and still prominent agriculture programs. It tells you about their nature, their history, and their strengths.

Michigan State, NC State, Kansas State, TAMU, Oklahoma State, Mississippi State, Purdue, Auburn, and Clemson all still have their colleges or schools of Agriculture. They're Ag Schools, they share a common bond.

Schools like USC, UVA, UNC, they've never had Ag Schools because they came first and are the flagship colleges. Compare that to the unified model like in Wisconsin or Nebraska.

Really?

Clemson was a Citadel type of military college the first half of its existence.

I would say land grant rather than 'ag school', if you think it is important to group schools that way. lol

also keep in mind SC was the original ag school in SC and would still be today if Dr. Clemson had not donated his land for a new college.

Also, many 'flagship' universites are also the land grant university in their state like UGA, Maryland, Florida and Tenn.

Again it’s not your thread. If you want to start a thread on record vs Clemson since 1977, feel feee. But that’s not what this thread is about.

Not really because many of the sorts of unified universities I talked about (where the state never formed an "Ag School" and just added it to the original university) are land grant; Minnesota, Illinois, Nebraska, Wisconsin etc.

my point wasn't Clemson is a military school currently.

the Wikipedia page on Clemson-UGA series has this to say:

'Clemson shifted from a small, all-male military institution to becoming a co-educational, civilian college in 1955, and expanded to meet University requirements in 1964. The matchups began to become more competitive as Clemson's athletic programs, along with the University, grew substantially in the 1970s. '

kind of sounds exactly like what I have been saying. lol

6 pages of you embarrassing yourself. You’re definitely a Clemson fan. And not a graduate. Not that it helps to be one.

I mean a situation like Wisconsin which instead of starting up "Wisconsin State" decided to establish the Ag School as a part of the University of Wisconsin. The opposite of what SC did.

Clemson is 4-3 against Auburn in the only 7 games in the past 50 years b/t the colleges.

Auburn's wins over Clemson were by 3, 3 and 4 points, and one of those wins was the Cam Newtown title team. It beat a 6-7 Clemson team by 3 in overtime.

lol

SC did establish an ag school...it was just halfazz to get the Morill ACt money to help fund the liberal arts stuff. that's why Tillman, who by the way was a horrible rotten no good racist and I disavow him, and otherswanted a separate ag school.

But uses the name

Makes sense.

cuz SC people always bring him up.

now you got two Tillman's that haunt you lol

buut never forget i'm the guy who proposed renaming Tillman Hall 'Watson-Renfrow Hall' to promote racial unity and more importantly troll Alabama fans forever.

on one side of Tillman we could have a massive video board that loops Watson's pass to Renfrow over and over and then Renfrow flipping the ball to the ref like a boss. lol

I can't really knock it, it's a great name if you're going to do what he's doing. If there was an ACC board and we had an equivalent figure I'd do it.

you mean like General Wade Hampton? got a dorm named after him.

or Strom Thurmond...got a fitness center named after him.

never understood why SC named their swanky new fitness center after a Clemson grad known for his racism while at same time act outraged Tillman Hall's name hasn't been changed. lol
