This is after an 0-3 start.

what kind of overall history do texas am and va tech have in football?

i bet they both also improved after moving away from being primarily a military school.

so the one loss after the 0-3 start was with a natty on the line.

i'll take 4-14 and a natty against any school. :)

There you go again, Clemson was never primarily a military school. If you wanted to commission as an officer you went to the Citadel. If you wanted to be a farmer, or a shop foreman, or an engineer you went to Clemson. It is still that way to a large degree.

TAMU and VT are SMCs today, Clemson is not, that kind of says something.

Only Texas A&M and Army provided more Army officers for World War II than Clemson.

n 1943, the Clemson football team lost its entire junior and senior class to World War II as players volunteered to serve in the U.S. Armed Forces. The Tigers went 2-6 that season as head coach Frank Howard could barely field a team.

When Clemson opened the season that year against Presbyterian College, nine freshmen started at the 11 positions in a 13-12 loss. That’s the last time PC beat the Tigers on the gridiron.

From LINK

that doesn't sound like a civilian school to me. lol

Nice factoid but that doesn't make you the Citadel. As I've said before, you were a farm school with a robust reserve commissioning program, you were not a military college a la the Citadel, Norwich, VMI.

so why does everythign I read about Clemson's history specifically call it a military college until 1955....

it had more officers in WW2 than the Citadel. the most in the country after Army and texas am. lol

Because you're reading Clemson's wiki and their website without a wider perspective of colleges at the time, the evolution of education in America, and the state of South Carolina. Clemson claims that title because they had a mandatory ROTC program until 1955 which was not uncommon. Why they choose to label themselves that probably has something to do with how Clemson wants to see itself, ask them.

I will and have granted you that it had a robust program but comparing it to the Citadel is silly and denies Clemson's own history and Ben Tillman's vision. He wanted an Ag school, not a Military College.

Those were reserve officers. There was a difference between the commissions at the time, there still is now but it's slight and changed in the 90's. You did not go to Clemson to become an Officer, you went to the Citadel.

Tillman isn't the founder of Clemson. lol

there's a reason it is called Clemson and not Tillman.

you are the only person I've talked to that has claimed Clemson was not a military college. lol

There are 5 military college in this country in addition to CItadel....two of which are texas am and Va Tech.

you've already said Clemson was like texas am and va tech. the only difference is Clemson decided to go 100 percent civilian and texas am and va tech did not.

Read our back and forth in this thread. My issue with you is that you claimed it was a Citadel type Military College. It was not and never has been.

lol, the point was never about what majors it offered. you had to be a cadet to attend Clemson , same as Citadel.

has there ever been a college where studnets had to be cadets that had a lot of success in sports? that's my point. your average kid doesn't want to go to a military college.
