This writer makes the argument for going with the Ags, rather than the Irish.
I’d love to see us get the nod over ND.
But I’ll live if we don’t.

quote:

If there is a perception that the SEC is down this season, it can likely be attributed to the fact that many of the teams that typically comprise the league's middle-class could not pad their win totals in non-conference play. But through all the intraconference brutality, Texas A&M emerged as the league's second-best team. Sure, the Aggies lost 52-24 to Alabama. But Fisher was wise to point out that game was played before an unfortunate season-ending injury to one of the Crimson Tide's top playmakers in Jaylen Waddle.

In fact, Texas A&M was in that game against Alabama for much of the first half before the Crimson Tide. The Aggies' loss to Alabama was certainly no worse than Notre Dame's anemic effort in Saturday's ACC title game.

Notre Dame has its regular-season win over Clemson and a victory over North Carolina to build its case around for a CFP berth. Texas A&M has seven wins over quality opponents from the best league in the country and an eighth victory over lowly Vanderbilt.

Fisher made another good point when he mentioned that a one-loss SEC team has never been left out of the playoff. When a one-loss Alabama team made it as the No. 4 seed in 2017 after not playing in the SEC Championship game, it qualified over a 12-1 Wisconsin team that was on its way to the playoff until a loss to Ohio State in the Big Ten title game.

The real argument shouldn’t be Ags vs Irish. It should be literally anyone vs Ohio State, who played half a schedule.

Notre Dame would have a loss to Alabama, they just haven't had to play them.
A&M deserves to be in not over Just Notre Dame...but also Ohio State.
If A&M doesn't get it, it's a joke. Ohio State, 6 wins, not enough...beating fricking Rutgers and NW? Best win is Indiana. Resume' sucks.
I don't give a shite about ND beating Clemson without all their players and beating UNC who beat No.10 Miami..bad...Miami doesn't need to be the measuring sticking for college football.
I really hope the arse holes decide 6 games isn't enough and have A&M in, fingers crossed, what's right is right.

Bama wants a team they already beat by four touchdowns and a team any of the top four could beat by four touchdowns.

We are surprised.

A&M deserves a playoff spot. Period. Only reason to leave A&M out is playong favorites to Ohio State and ND. Would send a strong message to the entire CFB world that playing hard and winning games takes a back seat to the profitability of your logo.

I don’t disagree.
There are arguments to be made for a few different scenarios.
Like I said, I’m good with whatever happens ... but it sure would be fun to have a chance in the playoffs.

quote:

"You want me to tell you why?" Fisher said to ESPN's Quint Kessenich after his team's win against the Vols. "We play in the best league in ball. We got beat by the No. 1 team in the country who also had another superstar on the team when they played us named [Jaylen] Waddle. People ain't even playing them with him now. No team in SEC history has ever lost but one game and [not] been in it.

"The other leagues, I love them all, but if we can't play in this league and be in the playoff, something is wrong."

quote:

"The people on the committees will do their job, but this team is very deserving," Fisher said. "I'm going to tell you that."

CBS Sports bowls expert Jerry Palm detailed Texas A&M's path to the playoff as follows (before Saturday's games began):

quote:

Beat Tennessee in its postponed game and hope for the best from the CFP Selection Committee. No. 5 Texas A&M needs two of Clemson, Ohio State and Florida to lose in order to backdoor its way into the CFP.

I really admire you for not taking my bait today. You are a very smart and rational person. I hope the outcome is in your favor :)

Funny that I don't see any Aggies fighting for Cincinnati.

Ain’t gonna lie - it would piss me off beyond measure to lose to an Ohio State team who won 6 games to get there. And it should piss everyone else off, too. Kind of a slap in the face to teams like Florida, Notre Dame, Georgia, A&M, etc.

Which team worries you the most? Honestly interested.

It wouldn't bother me at all.

I don't think it will happen. They're playing like a team who only played six games, and that certainly isn't a positive heading in to the playoff.

Honestly, I won't feel robbed if we get left out for Cincinnati. I think A&M is the better team, but I can get behind an undefeated 9-win Cincy getting the nod.

If being undefeated, regardless of SOS is what matters, Cincy should get in over Ohio State.

If playing tough games against high level competition is what matters, then A&M should be in over Ohio State

There really is not legitimate reason for Ohio State to get in. It should not happen if this sport has any legitimacy at all. Ohio State's schedule was not any tougher than Cincinnati's and Cincy won more games.

That’s fair.
But at some point you do have to consider the level of competition.
Where other teams benefited by not having OOC games, I think Cincinnati would’ve been greatly helped by playing (at least) one.

Austin Peay
Army
South Florida
SMU
Memphis
Houston
East Carolina

You shouldn't feel robbed no matter who gets in over you. Championship teams don't lose by four touchdowns.

That lineup really isn't any worse than Ohio State's schedule. Big 10 was downright awful this year.

Cincy is the more deserving undefeated team for the 4 spot.

A&M is the most deserving P5 team for the 4 spot.

I'm just tired of hearing the argument shift based on what's going to get A&M in.

They don't deserve it and no amount of creative math will change that.
