Typical of these types of assholes. They want to force everyone else to do what they do.

Am I reading it wrong?....Based on Emmert's quote it doesn't apply to FBS football?

The NCAA does not control bowls, the BCS, or the
BIG playoff series.

D1-AA (FCS, or whatever it's called), they do. And they control every other sport, I think.

There IS no NCAA major football national champion. It was, and is, a popularity contest from external sources. For the longest time it was the AP, and then the UPI in addition, which was the most recognized. The bowls are just invitational exhibitions, in the early days the polls picked a champ before the bowl games.
Now, they use the results of the bowls, and now the playoff, to figure it in.

This is part of the reason there's 4 spots, and 5 major conferences (and Notre Dame). The NCAA would not allow for a conference champ to be left out (think basketball, the auto bids).

This way, nothing is guaranteed. The committee just picks the 4 schools it likes. Conference champs do not matter. For example- let's say Alabama goes 11-1, with a loss to LSU. Lets say LSU loses an OOC game, and then loses to UGA, who comes out of the East with 3 losses. Who goes to the playoffs? Alabama, not the SEC West team, or the SEC Champ.

Something like this already played out, with Penn State being skipped in favor of Ohio State.

There's a reason why the B1G & Pac10 have never won a playoff game.

It is better to try and fail than it is to give up before the fight. Players deserve every chance to succeed.

Wouldn't surprise me if they kick up too much of a fuss, that the SEC, Big 12, ACC and any others that play split from the NCAA altogether and form their own governing body, leaving the NCAA with only the PAC 12 and Big 10. The NCAA should proceed very, very carefully going forward. Same for the Big 10 and PAC 12.

I can't lie.

I would absolutely LOVE that!!!

Thanks! I knew there could be a 4 team playoff per usual but was wondering about a SECCG

I guess it mostly pertains to sports like soccer and volleyball etc.

FWIW. I guess one of those sources has already exposed himself yesterday, i.e. Oregon State prez's remarks regarding the SEC playing this fall.

If Alleva is the best they could come up with the spearhead the sabotage then I don’t think anybody has much to worry about

That's not how it works- here was the NCAA statement

quote:

"We cannot now, at this point, have fall NCAA championships, because there’s not enough schools participating," Emmert said.
This does not include FBS football, as the NCAA has never had any oversight over that level of college football.

Y'know, I think I know why the SEC didn't go in with the ACC on games.

Forgive me, Chicken, but I think there IS politics in play here.
For now, the ACC is stating they're going to play, but don't be shocked if there's some last second ambushing going on there.
Boston College, Syracuse, Pitt maybe, who knows about Virginia or some of the NC schools? Last second cancellations to sabotage their season. You know there is/will be pressure to shut it down, even if the schools themselves want to play. If necessary, don't be shocked if some state governments just do it themselves, and not allow anything. I don't think Boston College has a chance in hell, really don't think Syracuse does either.

I think we can trust the SEC members, and I think the Big 12 too. And frankly, the Sun Belt. Them mofos would probably still play if everyone shuts it down.
I feel for Clemson, though. I think they're going to get "Et Tu Brutus'd" by the Northern schools.

And you are seeing the stupidity of not having a governing body for college football

I don’t give a frick what name you give it but we needed a governing body for college football this year with a fricking plan. Not just let a bunch of teams and conferences just do random throw shite against the wall

I wish Nebraska would have told the Big 10 bye. They would be leaving money on the table though.

Nebraska need to find a for sure place in a conference. The Big 12 is not a for sure conference right now and might still fold during the conference next TV contract.

They will fail in both regards.
TRUMP 2020-

It really does not matter what the rest of the country does, the SEC will play. I think that is the reason why it became a conference only schedule.

They are already using their media lap dogs on the SEC.

Which unfortunately is why it won’t last. Every decision that prolongs playing by the SEC/ACC/Big 12 is going to be attacked by the media on all fronts. They can’t sustain that.

Big Ten expected everyone to cave when they cancelled. Now that they didn't, they will try to save face and go to low class levels in order for nobody else to play. Would love it if the SEC/ACC/Big 12 don't schedule them

Schedule ACC & Big 12 and lots of good directional schools we have scheduled for years such as LA Tech, USL in Lafayette.

This is definitely not a surprise. They want their potential spring season to have some legitimacy, and football in the fall with an awarded national champion kills that completely.
