The SEC collectively can cause a nationwide melt, and retake our place on top of College Football.

Georgia vs Oklahoma

LSU vs The Irish

Mizzou vs Texas

S.Carolina vs Michigan

Alabama vs Clemson

Auburn vs Central Florida

I know some will have reservations about pulling for another team, but this is the time of year when your conference earns influence, prestige and momentum going into the offseason.

Go Tigers.

How can you talk about conference pride, when you didn’t even go to our conference’s championship game?

Everyone of those teams could win and the narrative will still be the shitty SEC. UT, ole miss, UF, vandy, arky were all that bad and oh yeah, LSU lost to Troy. The damage is done.

Better to not go than to go and lose handily.

What has that got to do with Conference Pride?

I said this to a Oklahoma poster. What conference is better?

PAC 12 did not get anybody in the playoffs. They are out.
BIG 10 got noone in the playoffs, they are out.
BIG 12 got one and SEC got 2, and ACC got 1.

ACC was Clemson and that's it. They are out.

That leaves the SEC and BIG 12. Take the top 10 teams of the SEC and the BIG 12 teams and match them up. Can anybody make the argument that the BIG 12 was better? Their bottom two teams were 1-11.

I would feel confident in Auburn if they were playing UCF without Frost. With him staying, they are going to play well over their heads. I actually think Auburn loses that game

first time I've even read a bama thread in a long time due to the narcasistic manner of a lot of your fan base. I applaud your manner in this post (not that that matters)

EVERY year since the SEC has gone on it's 8 year dominate NC run the national narrative has been "the SEC is down this year". repeat it enough and it becomes "true". and virtually all of those years, the SEC has proved it in the bowl games. the years they haven't was due to some mismatches that skewed the overall result but still the SEC fared up well.

even with florida and Tennessee struggling the SEC, top to bottom is the best conference in the country. the ACC has FSU, MIAMI, CLEMSON AND VATECH and is second, followed closely by the Big 10 with Penn ST., MICHIGAN, OHIO STATE with WISCONSIN occasionally being real good (ditto MSU). as far as the Pac12, they are so up and down they can't be considered at the top and the Big 12 has only three top programs with Okie, TCU and some mid level teams that shine occasionally (Okie lite, Baylor, West Virginia).

the nation hates us and I understand that.

High probability that the SEC gets bounced in all of those games. What then?

Percentage of Teams in Bowl Game
ACC: 71.4%
Big 12: 80%
Big Ten: 57.1%
Pac-12: 75%
SEC: 64.3%
quote:

The ACC, a conference with two legitimate playoff contenders all year, still managed to have 71.4 percent of its 14 teams reach a bowl game. That speaks to the depth of the conference. You could say the same about the Big 12. Oklahoma, TCU and Oklahoma State hovered in the Top 15 all year, but the week-to-week challenge in the conference was stiff. The Pac-12, the conference without a playoff team, was much same with 75 percent of its teams managing to reach a bowl.

The SEC and Big Ten, on the other hand, were much more top-heavy this season, and it shows in their members' bowl percentages.
Top 25 Teams in Final Ranking
ACC: 4
Big 12: 3
Big Ten: 5
Pac-12: 4
SEC: 5

Number of Teams With Winning Records
ACC: 7 (50%)
Big 12: 6 (60%)
Big Ten: 7 (50%)
Pac-12: 7 (58.3%)
SEC: 9 (64.3%)
quote:

the SEC takes these two categories by a slim margin. Not only does it have the most ranked teams, but the SEC also has the highest percentage of teams that finished the regular season with a winning record...
...These two sections also show just how top heavy the Big Ten is. Only half the teams in that conference have a winning record, and the Big Ten had three teams ranked in the Top 10.
Non-Conference Record vs. FBS Teams
ACC: 26-15 (63.4%)
Big 12: 19-10 (65.5%)
Big Ten: 25-8 (75.8%)
Pac-12: 19-8 (70.4 %)
SEC: 32-10 (76.2%)

Non-Conference Record vs. Power Five Teams
ACC: 9-13 (40.9%)
Big 12: 4-7 (36.4%)
Big Ten: 6-5 (54.5%)
Pac-12: 7-3 (70%)
SEC: 7-8 (46.7%)
quote:

...Not only did the Pac-12 win 70.4 percent of its games with FBS teams, but it’s one of only two conferences to carry a winning record against Power Five teams – for this exercise, Notre Dame counted as a Power Five team. In fact, it’s not close. The Pac-12’s 7-3 record is 15.5 percent better than anyone else.

These numbers, in a small sample size, also show the Big 12 and ACC struggled against P5 competition in the non-conference portion of the schedule...
Non-Conference Top 25 Record (At Time of Game)
ACC: 4-9 (30.8%)
Big 12: 1-2 (33.3%)
Big Ten: 2-4 (33.3%)
Pac-12: 1-1 (50%)
SEC: 3-4 (42.9%)

Non-Conference Top 25 Wins (Final Ranking)
ACC: 4
Big 12: 1
Big Ten: 0
Pac-12: 2
SEC: 1
quote:

...The Pac-12 has the best percentage, but that’s just USC/Stanford splitting a pair of games with Notre Dame ...

...The Big Ten is the only conference without a non-conference victory over a team in the Top 25...

...The Big 12 didn’t have many marquee matchups. West Virginia lost a close game to Virginia Tech and Texas lost a game in overtime to USC, but the Sooners did topple the Buckeyes on the road...

...The SEC, meanwhile, took it share of lumps. But the conference does own wins over Notre Dame and Florida State, among others...

...The ACC, meanwhile, had the worst Top 25 percentage, but it’s far and away the top conference in terms of Top 25 teams in the final ranking...
The inconclusive conclusion:
quote:

The Big Ten and SEC have are much more top-heavy, thus their teams being ranked in the Top 10 much of the year. The Pac-12 had a ton of success out of conference against Power Five competition. The Big 12, in terms of top-to-bottom quality, might be the toughest league to win week-to-week in the country. And the ACC might be the best balance of depth and powerhouses at the top.
