Not reading 6 pages but was it bush league when LSU ran the fake FG bounce pass for a first down against UF.
Looks like a hero if it works. Looks Bush league if it doesn't IMO.

With baseball it's different

I don't think this is a good comparison because defenses in football are designed to be ready for anything for the most part. A better comparison would be the fake timeout that Kurt Warner(?) ran many years back where he got frustrated and started walking to the sidelines and they had a direct snap to the running back.

I don't understand your reasoning for drawing a distinction. A fake is a fake.
I'm not in the mood to argue so I'll just say...
...you are dead wrong.

That runner was "designed" to not fall for that trick play (read as prepared not to be a sucker).

True to an extent, but that is one of the few football plays I would consider bush league because it involved a lot of acting.

Can you have a trick play without acting? That's why it's called a trick play, no?

I dont have a problem with it. They were starting to feel the lead possibly slip away and tried a very cheap (but low risk) way of getting the final out. It made them look a little desperate but hey they still ended up winning regardless of it not working.
Long story short LSU has proven over and over again trick plays do not work against us in baseball

The west coast teams try a lot of trickeration and I always took it as being related to their poor attendance. They're trying to generate interest in their program with circus plays.
And I always thought Busch League was in reference to the Anheuser-Busch sponsored pool leagues with their rules of play so completely different from standard bar rules. In particular, the way that slopshots count instead of all shots being called.

I mean yeah, but the play I'm talking about was over the top. He looked towards the sideline and got all frustrated and then undid his chinstrap and started walking towards the sidelines. It was a little ridiculous.

Didnt read all the replies, just the first 5 or 10 and I have a little different take.
I think it is Bush League if you do this in JV or little league, those little kids are more likely to fall for that. However, if a college ball player falls for this trick...that is there fault. You have to get 27 outs, if it is legal, do all things needed.

LSU smoked Wichita State in the 1991 title game and didn't need any 'trickery'.
LSU won the game 6-3 in '91. You're probably thinking of the '93 game when LSU beat Wichita 8-0.

No. It is just part of California baseball from Little League on up. The most elaborate fakes involve plays with a runner on first. I have seen them work at all levels. Even when they don't work, they have a tendency to slow runners down when a real throwing error happens. It takes a second to figure out where the ball is because they know they need to be careful.

It is Bush League when it is against little kids that don't know better. Against college competition... you should welcome it. I always feel that if someone attempts a trick play against you it means they are scared.

that play is why i hate west coast teams. they play like little bitches. Once the ball is turned into a mlb type ball their game is fricked because LSU is going to bash multiple home runs on them instead of fly outs to the warning track
