Hell it worked when Billy Heywood called it against Griffey in the ALCS.

Serious question here: do you purists think every fake play is bush league? Fake bunt? Fake punt? Head fake?

You can't compare different sports, but a fake bunt is not bush.

Why not?

Just because "bush league" specifically refers to baseball?

Well we don't even play half of the sports that are accounted for in the rankings. And who gives a shite who is good at anything beyond the big three sports?

Didn't have any problems with the play. Nothing Bush league about it.

LSU did it (from what I'm assuming off info in this thread) LSU did it before their first championship and haven't since.

LSU never used it in the playoffs. Bertman did make a trick play call once in the championship game, but it was when he was an assistant coach for Miami in the '82 championship game. The guy who mentioned it in this thread is confusing Miami's '82 championship win over Wichita State with LSU's '91 championship win over Wichita State--LSU didn't need any trick plays against WSU, as they led by a few runs throughout the game.

And in the big 3, there aren't many teams y'all are better than... Mizzou? Is tenn better than mizzou? I have trouble keeping up with shitty teams.

No it's not bush league. They needed an out and that was a great time to try that play. They knew the base runner wanted to advance so they thought they could get him off the bag with that. The part of the play I thought was stupid was that the pitcher ran to 3rd. Usually on that play he runs to 2nd so he can apply the tag as soon as the runner eases off the bag.

Had LSU ran that play and it worked every corn dog in here would be praising Manieri for his genius coaching abilities.

If it worked he is a genius. No different than half the trick plays Miles pulls in football games that he is praised for. Your pitcher is struggling and if you can get a cheap out get it.

This.

Lol at holier than thou baseball dorks crying foul. Someone give me a reason this is any different from a trick play in football other than "it's different in baseball".

We are the only team in the SEC that won a postseason game in all of the big 3 sports, but yeah I'm mad that we finished behind UT in water polo and bowling.

I don't really see it as a trick play

Neither are fake punts, fumble rooskies, half back passes, statue of liberties, or reverses.

I didn't mind it. I jumped off the couch and yelled to the base runner to run to 3rd. Played the shite out of me

Would mean it's a dumb or ineffective play not a bush league play.

A situation's predisposition for success or lackthereof should not factor in its inherent definition.

That is the most bullshite sounding sentence I have ever heard

In college, whatever...that stupid crap happens from time to time. In the pros, a guy would get drilled for pulling something like this. Wouldn't happen...wouldn't work there

It is "bush league" to me because it's cheap, shows a lack of confidence, looks really stupid, and is something that isn't done at the highest level.

And for the different sport thing...why do you peel the skin of an orange but eat the skin of an apple? Every sport has different unwritten rules.
