Can someone explain the story behind why the Aggie cadet tried to stab a cheerleader?

Did he find out the male tech cheerleader sucked off his boyfriend the night before or what? I’m not old enough to have seen it live

Suffered from a lack of honor.

SMU not Tech.
SMU Cheerleader violated the aggy tradition of not allowing anyone on their field. Said SMU cheerleader responded in a traditional way by putting aggy on his arse.
The aggy cadet fared better than when cadets attacked Baylor coeds during a halftime show, Baylor freshmen killed an A&M cadet in the retaliatory midfield ruckus.

“In 1924, Baylor had brought a vehicle onto the field mocking the Aggies, and it had swerved near the Aggie team during halftime, so A&M had warned Baylor, allegedly, that if they bring a car on the field, there’s going to be trouble,” Webb said. “Baylor did it anyway.”
imagine literally getting killed because of your school's fake tough guy act

This is great stuff for that "game between the hoses" thread the other day.
Tried telling y'all that literal riots were not uncommon with rivalry games way way way back in the day:
You can read the rest about the 1926 incident resulting in a fatality here:

Says that Baylor and A&M did not play for 5 years following the tragic death of the cadet.

With such revelry comes emotion and team spirit, and these can sometimes get out of hand. In fact, trouble had been brewing at this football showdown in the years leading up to the fateful game in 1926. In 1922, a riot broke out after the game and was broken up by firehoses. In 1924, another riot erupted after the Aggies lost, and both male and female students were allegedly assaulted until the Waco police dispelled the violence. When the 1926 game rolled around, Baylor had law enforcement ready for any postgame shenanigans, but to everyone’s surprise, the violence came long before the game ended.

Traditions …
.aggy fighting hero with a sword gets his arse kicked and a concussion from a visiting unarmed male cheerleader. .aggy fighting hero saved by police…

No way that idiot does that if he's not dressed up in that fake military outfit. That actually explains a lot of their weirder traditions. They have to dress up in ridiculous costumes to get them into the LARPing mindset.

The cheerleader disagreed with Don't ask, don't tell and it was on.

Back in the 70's, LSU was blowing out the aggies & late in the 4th quarter, Mike was dancing all along the sideline, faking going out on the field. The cadets were in a frenzy, just waiting. As the game ended, a dozen or so LSU fans rushed towards the sidelines, dancing along Mike. As 4-5 started across the hash lines & the cadets rushed to stop them, Mike, left alone, skipped across the field. The cadets pivoted & ran towards him. The LSU fans, now 20+, dashed across the field when left alone. Back went the cadets towards them, Mike took off across the field again.By now, more LSU fans were rushing & crossing the field. It got rougher & rougher till finally the cops took over & shut it all down. LSU fans in the stands were going nuts. That scene, the cadets pivoting back & forth, Mike dancing & avoiding them, was one of the funniest scenes I've ever seen on a field.
