Can Danny Etling go through a progression?

I have just watched this video (warning: OM's defense is very bad)
Every Etling pass vs. OM
and I came away with several criticisms, but the glaring one was that he is locked in on one receiver every play. Literally every play he only had one receiver in mind, and threw to that receiver whether he was open or not. I didn't ever see him come off his original read and check down or switch targets. Is this coaching, lack of PT, or lack of skill?
I don't think I have to tell you what that will get you against Bama. If a team with a really good defense can just focus on stopping the run, and that same defense has good players on the back end, how can you plan on winning a game with such a simple minded passing game?

I would rather have Tug Job at QB then some scrub that couldn't even start at Purdue

probably wont have time to hit his 2 or 3 options, I am guessing the coaching staff has him make some quick throws, but really just try to hand it off and hope LF7 breaks free

No he didnt. There was one play designed to go to the fullback, he wasnt open so Etling reset his feet and threw a strike to Dupre.
And I am sure there were several more plays, but hey what do I know. Btw, you scared

Threw for over 200 yards and only looked at 1 WR every play (he didn't), amazing!

well your blind. the ones where he didn't go to his 2nd read were because the first was open.

I've watched the same video and came away with a very different impression. Etling is actually quite savvy in most aspects of playing the position, which makes up for his lack of elite arm talent. I don't know what video you're watching, but "progressions" are not Etling's problem.

I would have to go back and look at the Ole Miss footage to confirm what you are saying for that game, but for the most part, every receiver was open in that game bc LF was gashing them left and right
But honestly going through progressions is probably the best quality of DE from every game he has played with us. Not sure if you hadn't seen him play before Sat. I don't know the last time we have had a qb who has been able to do this. Mett had a huge arm but I don't remember him going through his reads particularly well.

there's no way you watched this video and came away with thinking he locked in on his number one receiver on every play. Unless you truly know nothing of football.
Jesse Palmer was even discussing how he was going through his progressions... in the video you linked.

Serious question:
How many times did he need to go through a progression in that video? About 80% of the plays were either designed to be one read (screens) or the primary was open.
Your observational skills are impressive.

In defense of OP, it was against OM. They're giving up 500+ yards and and 40 points against SEC-West foes so Etling probably didn't need to look past his first option very often.

quote:Honest question, will he have time to? Seriously, the front four of Bama brings enough pressure on their own to disrupt a passing game. Doubt he will get the chance to look at a second much less a third receiver unless it is a busted play. Just keeping it real.

He went from the fullback to wr at 5:07. The announcers even talked about it. Why are you making stuff up?

well OP also apparently loves 12 year old boy bodied chicks too. his opinion is bad at women and football

He won't need to try his progressions in this game because he isn't going to have time. That's not a troll, quarterbacks don't have time to sit in the pocket and make 2-3 reads against Alabama. If the first read isn't open then he needs to run it or throw it away. Indecisiveness will get him killed next Saturday.

This. They say "wide open" about 15 times in that video, and he also throws 5-6 screens.
Not to mention the play at the 5:08 mark when his primary (FB) is covered and he hits his secondary.
ETA: The very next play, the bootleg, his primary is covered again and he try to hit his secondary. Albeit a poor decision, it was still a progression.
ETAA: Two plays later he looks deep, it isn't there, and tries to dump it off to his outlet.
ETA3: Again, two plays later he looks deep, but ends up going to his outlet.
OP may not understand what he's actually watching. Nevermind, it's confirmed. OP has no clue what he's watching.
