Calling technicals for fans throwing stuff on the court is a terrible idea

In theory it's supposed to be a deterrent to stop the mostly home crowd fans from throwing stuff on the court.
But there's really two problems:
1. It's patently unfair to the players and coaches to punish them for the actions of a fan. They didn't sell the guy a ticket, they didn't ask him to throw anything on the court. Holding them accountable for the actions of 20k+ random fans, many of whom may be intoxicated, is just ridiculous. Imagine playing your arse off for 40 minutes only to potentially lose the game because Trailerpark Jimbo had one too many beers and threw something on the court.
2. There's a huge chance to exploit it. Say Alabama is playing at Auburn, I as an Alabama attend the game, I might even wear an orange cap or something to look like a Barner. late in the game I could start throwing shite on the court attempting to get technical called on Auburn. As much as it's a deterrent to home fans, it's an incentive for road fans.

Some of us have standards...

It's not a likely scenario, but someone will eventually try it.
#1 is the main problem though. It's horseshite to punish the players for the actions of the fans.

And yet through 99% of games, fans manage to not throw shite on the floor.

A person who is gump enough to do this has too much bammer in him to ever throw on Auburn gear

Also, they will probably be behind too much for it to matter.

It's a distraction and a danger. Would you feel the same way if the stuffed animal came from behind and over the top of the backboard into the lane as the shot is taken?
If there is no penalty for it then people could thrown stuff every time the team came down the court. You have to penalize it as a deterrent.

Sorry. The ugas threw it.
Get over it. Dumb idea to allow it. One game at a certain arena would yield bourbon bottles and red solo cups.

People didn't before the rule either. The rule is unnecessary. It doesn't accomplish anything other than punishing players who didn't do anything.

It's not 'allowing' it, it's a criminal offense regardless.
The fans who do it should be arrested and likely barred from attending future events.
To say it's a deterrent is stupid because a drunk arse livid fan is likely to be unaware or unconcerned of the tech rule anyway.

Fans just need to not throw shite on the court and then there's no problem.

Ever played at a school where they throw quarters at your players? Or bottled water?
It’s a safety issue. Shitty fans need to do better.

Nobody is arguing that fans should be allowed to throw shite.
I pointing out the sheer injustice of punishing players for something they didn't do and had no control over at all.
