Why shouldn’t he be considered?

Auburn folks will say he’s not qualified because he’s a position coach.

But so was Dabo Swinney.

So, why shouldn’t he be considered?

Honestly I think they should stick with him for a year. What’s the worse that can happen? Might be some better options come next spring for coaching hires

I agree - I think he could wear interim for a year

Again, why not Cadillac?

I’m assuming he will be the top candidate at Alabama when Saban retires?

Also, Dabo was a college coach for 15 years before he as hired. Not a comparable situation

Of course not. He’s Auburn through and through and I doubt he’d consider anything from Alabama

Certainly he does not have the pedigree of other candidates. But he has passion, his players love him, he can recruit, and the coordinators coached well for him. As suggested above, give him one year.

How are you going to spin a one year contract to recruits?
You either give him a 4 year contract or hire someone else.

while not my first pick AU's rushing stats have been the best since 2013 since he took over, he's responsible for having recruited and kept both tailbacks ( Au's best players) , i've really not seen him make any real game time errors.. if we fall down the candidate list too much further i wouldn't be opposed.

Good point. That argument worked well when there wasn’t a transfer portal.

Whatever you do, figure out how to keep him. I enjoyed watching him coach yesterday. It would be a screw up to send him back to rb coach.

I hope he stays in some capacity. He’s earned that.
The thought of him as HC is growing on me but it couldn’t be seen as an interim or placeholder hire.

The problem with giving him a one year contract, is how do you make him step down when someone better comes along? The players won’t be on board for that unless he’s losing a bunch and clearly in over his head.

But so was Dabo Swinney.

Nowhere near the same. Carnell has a grand total of 3 and a half seasons in the college ranks. Dabo had over a decade before he got the interim tag.

Why didn't Bama hire Dabo after Dubose?

You can’t give him a short term contract when no other candidate would get that kind of contract. You either think he’s the guy for the job or he’s not.

True - and the talent level makes it difficult to prove himself next year

Plus I'm sure he'd take a 1-year, very reasonable contract (with bonuses attached).
What could it hurt?...besides, Auburn could use a good story regarding their social justice reputation.

I think Williams would be the first to say he's not ready for it.

Actually he has said it.

I’ve never seen him quoted saying that. Provide a link.

1 year contract is a no-go.
It’s got to be all or nothing

Cadillac is 1000x better than scumbag freeze - he could grow into an outstanding head coach. And he would do it the right way - very impressed with him.
