Heard this stat earlier today and looked up the details:

Bruce Pearl is possibly just 2 wins away at getting to .500 against SEC Opponents since taking the job at Auburn. That includes SEC Tournament games.

After starting out 25-48 in his first three seasons, his teams have gone 36-15 against SEC opponents ever since.

Put it all together, and he's 61-63 against SEC opponents since arriving at Auburn.

Auburn fans: I know your basketball history has been pretty rough, but has your program ever experienced a 7-year period with .500 play or better in SEC play? Seems like maybe back in the '80s you might have had a run like that, but not sure it's been done over a 7-year period like this one.

Pretty impressive considering how slow Pearl started at Auburn.

Yeah, the 80's had a 7 year period of well over 500. Cliff Ellis in the 90's actually only had two seasons finishing over 500 in conference.

Pearl has built them up. Sucks that a lot of their guys from the Final Four team were all from Georgia.

For Auburn basketball, that's a really good run. Pearl has transformed that program, and more importantly, he's transformed that gameday atmosphere and interest. The new arena doesn't hurt, either, with the gameday experience.

There is only one program in the SEC that has been less impressive in Basketball and that is UGA. Auburn's record is worse, but UGA has had so much potential because of being in the state of Georgia, that they should be perceived on the level of Auburn over history. Both programs really didn't care about BB and neither wanted to invest in it. It took Auburn building their new Arena and hiring Pearl to change the attitude at Auburn. Not sure what it is going to take at UGA.

The same thing that has happened at Auburn........hire the right coach.

The right coach and proper investment in our basketball program. Every stud player knows that if you come to Georgia you'll play second fiddle to the football team when it comes to fan support, facilities, and the coaching we bring into the program.

Anthony Edwards is cool and all, but we're doing jackshit with him.

They have had some "decent" coaches, but have lacked the HR coach. Their arena is one of the most depressing in the SEC. Unless the address that issue, I think the will keep floundering in the SEC.

Mark Stoops has won the 2nd most games at UK behind only Bear Bryant and yet somehow threads like these never pop up.

Out of the East teams, We're tied with Florida for most wins behind only Georgia, yet people still just talk about Tennessee and South Carolina.

But hey, Bruce Pearl is just amazing. GMAFB.

Ok so I just went to Sports-Reference and looked it up.

From 1995-2001, Auburn had a 7-year period in which they were just one game below .500 against SEC opponents. All total (including SEC Tournament games), Auburn was 62-63 against SEC opponents during this time frame..... however, you are correct that there were just two individual seasons during this 7-year stretch in which Auburn was individually above .500.

It appears that by far the best 7-year stretch in school history was way back from 1957-1963 in which Auburn was an impressive 72-26 against SEC opponents.

In more recent times, the best 7-year stretch was from 1982-1988 when Auburn was a combined 76-64 against SEC opponents during a 7-year period. Pearl could literally win out in the regular season and go 4-0 in the Tournament and still fall short of besting the SEC Winning Percentage during that era. However, it appears once you stretch the time period to 8 seasons, that's when things start to go down hill. Since the 1960's, Auburn's best 8-year period in SEC play would have been 1981-1988 in which the program was just barely above .500 with a 80-79 record.

You've got to think chances are good that this time next year, Auburn's program will have its best 8-year stretch of basketball since the 1950s/1960s.

Pretty interesting. Would love to see Georgia turn our program around in the same way however I think Step 1 is a new facility.

Bruce Pearl went to the Final Four and is currently ranked in the Top 10

Mark Stoops best season Kentucky went to the Citrus Bowl and went 10-3

If Mark Stoops had gone to the CF Playoff and was current in the top 10.......I think he'd be getting the same conversation. What Stoops did is the equivalent of if Pearl had a team get a #4 seed one year and was on the bubble all the rest. It'd be pretty good, but it wouldn't be nearly the same thing.

It seems so many have forgotten. Someone the other day just said it took him one year to turn around the program. There was some doubts by some early on but he has done an amazing job since then.

Pearl won an SEC Regular season championship and an SEC Tournament Championship at Auburn... on pace to very possibly add another this year.

Stoops has yet to win his division.

Pearl took Auburn to the Final Four. Stoops is yet to even reach a NY6 Bowl.

Stoops has been great for Kentucky, but sorry the level of success achieved so far is not in the same realm. If Stoops gets Kentucky to an SEC Championship Game then you might see a bit more credit thrown his way, but he's got to do more than just beat up on Vandy, cream puff OOC teams, and MSU, SC, and/or MIZ when they are having down years to get the same type of credit.

I thought Stoops was basically another Rich Brooks, which is not bad at all, but he has shown to be better than Brooks these last two years.

Only Auburn BB Fans know how low the program was. I'm not sure Pearl could have accomplished what he has done if Auburn had not built the new arena. That is why I questioned Bama remodeling Coleman and UGA not starting over.
