Brian Kelly’s Recruiting at Notre Dame

ND’s class rankings over the past 6 years according to 247:
2016 - 15th
2017 - 10th
2018 - 10th
2019 - 15th
2020 - 18th
2021 - 9th
Only one five star brought in through these seasons. So, clearly the academic reqs at Notre Dame were holding him back from recruiting at the highest level, thus the talent discrepancies were evident in the playoff performances.
This will be his first opportunity to recruit at an elite level and even the field. A new challenge altogether.
My only fear is that he’ll take the $$ coast into retirement.
Thoughts?

Good recruiter but going to be interesting how he recruits at LSU. Kind of a completely different operation than the setup at Notre Dame. But he's signed good players and they always seemed to have very good players at certain positions.

He wouldn't take the lsu job if he was coasting. Could have stayed at notre dame for that.

Sounds a lot like Dan Mullen when he was hired at Florida.

I think he'll do fine. What could really put him over the top is if he can bring in the offensive linemen from the midwest.

No. He wants to win a championship. Why else would he jump into a pressure cooker. A prior ND coach said the academics held back recruiting. Actually it should be that way nation wide. But those days are toast.

Notre Dame wasnt falling all over themselves to throw 10 million plus at him.

I'm sure a lot of people think it's a bad hire, or are trolling, and even probably some melty LSU fans. But he seems like a no non-sense coach which is what the program needs right now more than anything is some discipline coming from the top.

If you think Norte Dame can’t recruit at or above the same level as LSU can you’re a moron.

Do you even know how recruiting works?

They can’t. This is well documented and known by pretty much every fan around their program.

Exactly. ND is a national name- which is how you have to recruit these days because Bama is as well now.

They can't. They have limitations because of their academic standards. There's no recruiting ground in Indiana. ND has to go out of state to get recruits. LSU is much more fertile recruiting area. Plus kids from the south don't wanna go to South Bend. It's WAY easier to recruit at LSU.

What’s the limitation? Be specific?
Kelly said out loud that only a couple of his players would be accepted into the university if they weren’t great at football.

Why is that clear? Maybe he’s just not that great of a recruiter?

No one takes the LSU job to coast. If that was the case, he would've stayed at ND where his bread was already buttered.
He wants to compete, period. He'll have lock down access to elite level talent at LSU. This is a great hire.
