re: Brian Kelly Getting Crushed For Latest Recruiting Loss

Wow. An article from 6 years ago that conveniently leaves out 2019!

I understand you people think football is this new sport that only started 20 years ago, but there's a lot more history to it than that. And a lot more than goes into what is a top 5 job than a few recent results.

What a weird thread. About to land 2 in the top 10, lead for 8 of top 16 which are all top 250 kids. Arch, Holstein weren't coming to lsu no matter the coach, neither were ausberry, Tackett. Texas nabbed a s with nil $, and Nebraska a wr with nil and former lsu wr coach who recruited him. We replaced that wr with a much higher ranked commit from Florida wr, about to get top 12 LA kid Collins at qb too. Heard this same stuff from aggies buddies, all those de and dts just got are all out of state kids though... yeah, cause go look at the top de and dt in state, not sure 1 is ranked in top 400. Staffs killing it. But gotta find a narrative I guess

^^^^

Only part you left off is the fact this is not a “banner year” for LSU talent. Let’s revisit the convo in a year when shitbait clickbait is talking about CBK 2023 class.

Winning national championships brings higher expectations and Ed Orgeron is feeling the pressure just a bit heading into his fifth full season with the Tigers this fall.

The point - and I can’t believe I have to explain this to you - is that LSU is CURRENTLY a top 5 job.

Nobody gives a shite if Michigan is the winningest football program in history because they beat Harvard in 1905. What a coach TODAY wants to know is if the school he’s going to can win soon and consistently compete for titles. With that in mind, and not taking into account the results of games in the prehistoric era, LSU is considered a top 5 program today.

No, it's not.

And both Jimbo and Riley both told you that a few months back.

How the hell are you not seeing that? Two coaches, one of whom you mock constantly, turned your job down. You SETTLED for Kelly.

can be directly attributed to the support of the fanbase. Saban has said as much many times. The players he recruited said it. National media said it.

So, I’ll admit that fan support and atmosphere help in building a winner. But LSU’s problems over the last two years are primarily related to having a dumbass as a coach. You honestly going to disagree with that?

This needed to be a banner year, as the state of Louisiana has rarely if ever seen an in-state crop of talent like this. 18 players ranked as 4 & 5 stars, including three 5 star players.

Since the beginning of recruiting rankings, the 2016 class is the only one that comes close to what Louisiana produced this year. LSU signed 10 of the top 11 players in the state for that cycle, and we all saw the result of that recruiting haul.

This was not the year to say “wait til next year,” unfortunately.

Another set of issues that are not mutually exclusive. Having both of those things at the same time isn’t a good recipe for success, as we’ve seen.

You’re asking for all kinds of proof, so I’ll ask you for proof of this. You’ll find speculation, but no proof.

Look, you have the best team in the SEC. I’m not sure why it rustles you so badly to admit what nearly every expert in College Football has clearly said: LSU is currently a top 5 program.

Ok, but, as you’ve already admitted, you can have great fans and great environments, and still suck. Sometimes it takes a Coach who is serious and authoritative to build back a fan base that is discouraged. We’re hoping Coach Kelly can do that. Maybe he can, and maybe he can’t. We’ll see. But so far I like what I see.
