I understand you people think football is this new sport that only started 20 years ago, but there's a lot more history to it than that. And a lot more than goes into what is a top 5 job than a few recent results.

The point - and I can’t believe I have to explain this to you - is that LSU is CURRENTLY a top 5 job.
Nobody gives a shite if Michigan is the winningest football program in history because they beat Harvard in 1905. What a coach TODAY wants to know is if the school he’s going to can win soon and consistently compete for titles. With that in mind, and not taking into account the results of games in the prehistoric era, LSU is considered a top 5 program today.

This needed to be a banner year, as the state of Louisiana has rarely if ever seen an in-state crop of talent like this. 18 players ranked as 4 & 5 stars, including three 5 star players.
Since the beginning of recruiting rankings, the 2016 class is the only one that comes close to what Louisiana produced this year. LSU signed 10 of the top 11 players in the state for that cycle, and we all saw the result of that recruiting haul.
This was not the year to say “wait til next year,” unfortunately.

Another set of issues that are not mutually exclusive. Having both of those things at the same time isn’t a good recipe for success, as we’ve seen.

Look, you have the best team in the SEC. I’m not sure why it rustles you so badly to admit what nearly every expert in College Football has clearly said: LSU is currently a top 5 program.

Ok, but, as you’ve already admitted, you can have great fans and great environments, and still suck. Sometimes it takes a Coach who is serious and authoritative to build back a fan base that is discouraged. We’re hoping Coach Kelly can do that. Maybe he can, and maybe he can’t. We’ll see. But so far I like what I see.
