Then coaches like Hugh and Gus might have to actually coach football versus just running 400 fastbreak gimmicks every game.

This. It's the only way Gus the Pius can put an effective offense on the field.

If you are a program of the Texas Tech variety, you need a gimmick to sell tickets.

The Texas A&M Administration was smart enough to hire a Coach with enough brainpower to know it is really stupid to try to out-Saban Saban.

By the time this season is over your stupid Coach is going to be homesick for the frozen confines of the B1G.

Lulz at all the pussies in here calling a hurry up offense gimmicky. Don't try to bash that style of offense as a way to prove Bielema is right. You all mad that their is innovation that uses speed without subbing to breakdown a defense. It is football no matter what. Trying to change rules to give the advantage back to the defense is BS and weak. Your defensive coach should be good enough to figure it out.
Get a defense that has better stamina. You have enough talent out there to handle any scenario or package needed. You also have timeouts if it is that important to get proper personnel on the field.

So they hired a coach in hopes of maybe winning one game per year. Real smart.

Bert Bielema is a giant pussy. Nick Saban is a short pussy.

So what constitutes a "gimmick" play? I've always wondered.

plays that the poster making the claim didn't run in high school when he was on the bench or has never seen due to the coach of his favorite team running a vanilla offense.

I hate the hurry-up pussification of football.

I don't think it's enjoyable to watch 5'8" 150 lb kids run end-arounds 25 times a game.

Saban got one vote. Got the schedule - now he wants to change the rules. Saban. He's got the goods on Slive.

I always wondered why defenses facing a HUNH offense just didn't go after the QB, even to the point of unnecessary roughness/late hit penalties, to even the score. Send blitzes the entire drive.

If a HUNH offense is adament about running 7-10 play drives on me in that fashion, I'd put their QB on the ground every play and take the penalties. It might cost me a touchdown, but I'll accomplish two things:

1) I'll be renting space in the QB's head. He'll be pissed off at the "cheapshots" and I'll affect his efficiency running the HUNH. Plus, the HUNH team may end up using a back-up or third-stringer. Again, efficiency of the offense is impacted.

2) Any penalties assessed will slow the game down. And, I might just get away with a shot or two.

I'd gladly give up a score or two if it meant the opposing team's QB is out for the rest of the game. I know it's not the honorable thing to do, but to Hell with it. I'm trying to win football games here.

Bama showed how to shut down a spread offense. TAMU only scored 9 points the last 3 quarters. Aggies defense was good enough to win the game.

Bama probably figured out the calls like in the 2010 IB in the first half, and used that to offset the fast pace.
