KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — University of Tennessee officials are discussing Butch Jones’ immediate future as head coach of the Vols on Sunday afternoon, according to sources close to the program.

Tennessee (3-5, 0-5 SEC) has lost four consecutive games, including a 29-26 defeat at Kentucky that registers as the program’s second loss in the past 33 years to the Wildcats.

Jones told the media Saturday night he was “absolutely” certain that first-year Vols athletic director John Currie would support him the remainder of the season, but it appears that might not be the case.

Looks like the UF admins gave the Vols admins the kick in the rear they needed.

This is breaking news?

They should have been discussing his immediate future for more than 2 years

They're discussing how many years he has left, he's taken them to several Life Championships.

I hope the administrators at Tennessee are discussing how to publicly hang themselves from the Gay St. bridge as penance. They have failed us. Volunteer Landing needs to look like King's Landing, with heads on spikes.

Vols look stupid if they keep Butch at this point

Anyon know the finances? Is there a huge difference in buyout between now and seasons end? Or did st of year?

Only reason I can see for delay

It's not a big enough difference IMO, especially if they are considering paying Gruden 10+ mil per year...

A couple of million is a lot; especially if Gruden is actually in the bag

The only negative is recruiting, but only if they wait till Jan 1

Yup, Tennessee got beaten to the punch by Florida and now they are panicking. Dumbasses should have fired him after the UGA game to get a head start on their coaching search. Now, it's too late.

Not really

The best candidates are preoccupied right now and won’t be accessible until season is over anyway...
