Both T-AM and LSU will have upgraded their DC's when it's all said and done. Chavis is good but not elite, and to convince yourself otherwise is to ignore reality. But again, it's an upgrade for AM.

I didnt say LSU would hire elite. But if the school thought Chavis was elite, we'd have kept him.

Fanfrickingtastic. All we need is good.

LSU on the other hand better go find elite to go with that offense.

Best defense in SEC. Not elite.

In his 20 years as D coordinator in SEC hasn't he always been in top 26 in D? Forget all the stats I saw on the guy but how is he not elite?

Pretty sure Chavis is elite, but don't let facts get in your way

I know you think you are elite or something, but if you are being objective...don't you think lsu just might have had an idea what they were doing when they declined to add a couple hundred K to his contract.....that's all he wanted....LSU wouldn't give it to him.

LSU is loaded with NFL talent on D....you should know that already seeing how they shut your gimmick offense down every year. It won't be a hard task to upgrade. Not going to slam Chavis...he is a solid dc, and as OP said, an upgrade for Texas A&M......but you think LSU just let him go because we wanted to hire a worse DC.......I know you are an aggie and believe you are special....but be realistic.

Chavis is elite against spread/gimmick type offenses....that's a fact. Chavis is not elite against power offenses. He is also not the greatest on third and long, or at the end of halves. He is a good DC. He is not a great DC. LSU was dripping with NFL talent...tends to make it easier. If LSU snags pendegrass......and gets O as well....will be a homerun for LSU>

No.

Check top scoring defenses in the SEC this season (and historically under Chavis) and see where LSU is. Yardage is a BS stat. Our record this season proves that.

Also, Chavis consistently failed to make final-drive stops throughout his tenure at LSU...including two days ago.

That's actually an opinion, not a fact.

The way it works... as long as he was coaching at LSU he was elite. Once he stiffarmed the AD and joined the Ags he became overated, on the decline, the real problem at LSU, etc.. etc.. etc.. blah blah blah.

Of course there are about 85 threads on the board about why LSU need to resign him, pay him whatever it takes, how he is trolling A&M, why he will never leave, he will retire a Tiger, etc... etc...

As of yesterday afternoon, most are NOW glad he is gone so they can bring in an "elite" DC.

No. I honestly think LSU had no idea what they were doing because their organization, all the way from the top at the AD down to Les Miles, are amateurs. They get lucky with Sabans recruits have one year where Chavis puts the best defense in history together, but they somehow frick up every season after and between then.

Les Miles is a god awful coach and you'd better hope he makes the right DC hire because if he doesn't he will be out on his arse in 2 years. I don't think anyone is buying that Cam Cameron was a good hire at this point.

...but SHITTY Chavis is NOT. So, it looks like we will both improve our situations. 2015 will be a scrap we tell our grandkids about. I'ma be in BR for that one.

While I don't 100% disagree with your logic on why LSU would let him go (at least from your perspective), I think you are overlooking the impact of your AD being a complete retard on this situation.

What exactly continues? Seriously. I'm not sure I follow you here.

LSU wouldn't match his offer, wouldn't guarantee his contract......I mean, what more do you want?

You really think Chavis, who is at the end of his career, just sees that A&M is some powerhouse he he wants to go there. The reality is that A&M gave him 1.7 a year, and they guaranteed it. Good luck with him turning that D around before Sumlin is gone...and also good luck to any DC to turn that d around given the style of offense that Sumlin runs. This is year 4 for Sumlin, how long are you guys going to wait around to win the West...seriously.

If that is what you mean by continues, ok.

I'm just basing my statement on facts such as scoring defense, total defense, and other statistics.

Please tell me who (as a DC) is elite so I can destroy your dumbshit argument with actual facts.
