I laughed tremendously @ this quote from Bo Pelini: “I guarantee there are a lot of teams in the SEC that aren’t Alabama that wish they were Nebraska, that wish they were Michigan, wish they were Ohio State,” Pelini said in July. “So don’t talk to me about the SEC. Let’s compare specific programs. The whole SEC isn’t Alabama, isn’t LSU and isn’t Georgia. Every year is different.”

Yes, Bo, let's compare. Nebraska hasn't even won a conference title this century w/ an 0-4 record vs the SEC during that span. Michigan has won 1 outright & 1 shared title this century w/ a record of 3-4 vs the SEC in that span. OH St. is 1-4 vs the SEC in bowls & 1-10 all time in bowls vs the SEC; the lone win was vacated after the Buckeyes used multiple ineligible players. At least OH St. did manage to win a nat'l title this century (thanks to that sketchy pass interference call on Miami in OT), unlike those other 2. So are Auburn (2 SEC titles & 1 nat'l title this century) & Florida (2 SEC titles & 2 nat'l titles this century) are supposed to be jealous of those from the Slow 10?

Pelini's delusional view of Slow 10

Can't blame a guy for trying to uplift his conference, but don't do it taking shots at the conference that gave you chance to coach in.

He singled out LSU as being one of the elites and was basically saying the Ole Miss' of the world aren't LSU nor are they Nebraska. Which is true.

I sort of agree with him in a sense. He's the head coach. Of course, he's supposed to take pride in his program. And the SEC is definitely better, but it's not THAT much better. I mean we did lose to Clemson this year.

What you expect him to do? Pump us up? The man is in the big Ten, this year you will see Urban Meyer say the SEC has gone down and only Alabama is a good team.

That's what he did at Florida...

I don't see anything wrong with his statement.

I would rather be Nebraska, Michigan, or Ohio State than Kentucky, Arkansas, or Mississippi State.

He even singled us out as badasses.

Agreed. But today's Nebraska isn't yesterday's Nebraska either.

We were considered the #6 team in the SEC and lost to the #2 team in the ACC conference by 1 point because Mett literally couldn't complete a 2 yard pass. Let that sink in.

Nebraska is a poor man's TAMU. You think we couldn't have beat them? What we excel at it run stopping and causing turnovers. Martinez would have been toast. Goes for Michigan and Ohio State.

Pelini should know that the SEC is more than a 3 team conference as his comment implies. Trying to compare those 3 Slow 10 teams to Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU or mUlligAn in this century is ridiculous. He didn't need to take a baseless shot @ the SEC. No SEC team is on his schedule. I hope the Children of the Corn face an SEC team in a bowl this season & have their fields torched as a reminder to Bo of the SEC's superiority. I hope the same fate awaits Urban Cryer & his band of nuts too.

Saw him after the Kentucky loss that Sunday running on Nicholson. Bo looked mad,he put that loss on himself. And LSU still won a national championship, great guy!!

I don't think Michigan has a full title.

Except they had to vacate that bowl win because they were cheating.

Pelini should recognize that the SEC is nowhere near the big10 when it comes to embarrassing scandals.

PSU, OSU lead the way in what is really embarrassing. The SEC was a punchline for 'lack of institutional control', but then RUTGERS happened.

The northern media journalists seem to ignore these inconvenient truths about the big10's best programs. But Rutgers' situation has been a loooong comedy of errors.....serious ones. Right when half of the big10's scandals were waning, another big one peeps out of nowhere.

And the big10 scrambled to let them in?

Bo's right, the rest of the SEC is not like Bama, LSU and UGA. Let's compare SPECIFIC SCANDALS while we are at it. If he's going to choose only three schools from the SEC, then I'll choose three big10 schools.

Truth is, until his shitty conference knocks the SEC off, the SEC will ALWAYS be brought up.

Those who have a problem with Pelini's-- or even Stoops'-- comments in that article are over-reacting.

The context of the statements by both of those coaches in clearly a response to reporters trying to push their buttons about the perceived quality difference between the Big 12(Stoops) or Big 10(Pelini) and the SEC. Please note this part of the Pelini quote: "So don't talk to me about the SEC." Stoops made an implicitly similar comment to his reporter by pointing to the large number of teams from the Big 12 that made it to bowls before pointing to the lack of success for the bottom teams of the SEC. Both coaches showed respect for the successful teams of the SEC.

Importantly, both coaches were doing interviews within their respective conferences; they were not looking to bash the SEC. Reporters were looking to push their buttons. I doubt they'd have brought up the SEC if not prodded. And if either of them started gushing about how good so many SEC teams are, or down-talked their own programs or conference, they should probably be fired.
