Bo Nix’s stats don’t tell the story.

If you look at this guys stat sheet, you would probably write him off immediately. The thing I noticed about the guy is that he makes the play when he has to. He makes a lot of really ugly plays in between, and sometimes just looks really average, but in the heat of the moment he somehow gets shite done.
The story here, however, is can he start making those in between plays? Because Auburn’s defense won’t be as dominate and he will have to start sustaining drives more consistently. It looks like the kinks can be worked out, and if so, he reminds me of Dak and Tebow a little bit.

We will see how he progresses. He could make a spectacular throw and follow that up with a bad throw. If he can get more consistent, he could be a very good QB before it's all said and done.

In college Tebow was just a great player, but in the pros he was a player who 'makes the play when he has to'. Why? Because we use that as an excuse for players in key positions who we want to root for, not for players who are actually good.
Name me a CB who gets burned all the time but "makes plays when he has to"? Name me a lineman who gets pancaked 10 times a game but "makes plays when he has to"? Those guys are situational players or just bench warmers - not QB1.
Caveat: Nix was a freshman last season. He has room to grow. There is no reason, however, to believe he's a net plus on that team. He hasn't proven it - yet.

His stats definitely don't tell the entire story!
Facts:
- Bo Nix hasn't thrown an INT since LSU game in october. (Mac Jones threw 2 against Auburn)
- Bo Nix 6 picks came in 3 games(Oregon,UF, and LSU) he did not throw a pick in 10 other games.
- Bo nix is 3rd in SEC history in passing yds by a True Freshman behind Jalen hurts and Jake Fromm.
- Bo Nix is the first true freshman to start for Auburn in 70 years.
- Bo nix stats from his freshman year are exactly the same as Joey Burrow's 2018 year at LSU.
- Jordan Palmer QB guru, believes Bo nix will be the 1st pick in the 2022 NFL draft
- in the off season Bo nix worked out with Joe Burrow, Sam Darnold and Deshaun Watson to get better.

People also don't recognize that Gus was playing extremely conservative with his True Freshman QB. Bo Nix didn't do check downs until November and also shared snaps with Joey Gatewood thru the 1st 5 games.
Imo people are incredibly hard on the kid, with 90% of his skill players returning (ie WR,HB, TE) he should do better than last year.

If he can make it to the NFL, he may have a chance working with someone who knows wtf they're doing.

Everyone laughing at Nix doesn't realize how good he can be. This time last year we were laughing at burrow.

The kid gained 15 pounds of muscle this offseason, and has all his WRs returning. Thats major if you ask me,
Im not concerned about the OL that left as Horton and Kim were the most horid ive seen on the plains, addition by subtraction imo.
The OLine will be better with their new coach who has NFL ties.

One could say the same about any QB on UGA's roster. Who is Dewayne Matthews? lol

LSU doesn't have a True Freshman QB in their history with stats to match up with Bo Nix. The best team in the History of college football almost lost to a team lead by Bo Nix.
good take
