If you are really tuned into the league then there may not be a single team that fits in either category by the end of the year, but for the casual observer this would be my two picks

Surprise- Miss St. I think they could have a really nice year with Fitzgerald returning and the offense that Moorehead ran at PSU is a really good fit for his skill set. I don't expect them to win the West or anything, but they could be better than a lot of people think.

Disappointment- Georgia. I don't expect them to be bad by any means, but after last season and with Fromm coming back (and their recruiting class) I think a lot of outside observers will expect them to be a playoff caliber team again. They could be, but I could also see a scenario where they really miss the players they lost on defense and only win 9 or so.

I feel like Georgia, Auburn, and Alabama are the only teams that could be disappointing based on fans' expectations, and I don't see any of them having bad years. The worst season I could see from any of those teams is Auburn going 8-4 or 9-3.

All the other fanbases seem to have very low expectations this year.

I think A&M could miss a bowl, so I guess I'll say they will be the biggest disappointment even though their fans don't seem to be expecting much this season.

I like Miss State, but they're getting too much attention as the surprise team. I think South Carolina could win 10 games. They get Georgia really early at home, so maybe there's some upset potential there.

Historically not a good position for MSU. We fly much better under the radar.

Suprise team Florida salamanders. They have the defense to play with anyone and talented receivers and good enough run game. Dan Mullen will have the qb playing better.

Disappointing team the auburn peacocks. Average qb and above average defense back. And they will still have Gus Malzhan. 7 to 8 wins at best.

I too think SC could have a really good year, but I don't think it would be much of a surprise. Coach's 3rd year, return their starter at QB, Samuel etc

I feel they'll get a decent amount of preseason hype

Biggest surprise/disappointment team

I'm picking Florida for both. Gator fans will be surprised with the points that Mullen will score using the same players who looked inept last year.

But Florida won't be a threat to UGa, which is disappointing. Fans are ready for a competitive East between 2 real contenders again

I'd have to say Florida for "surprise team" for two simple reasons:
1. Florida should have a much improved offense.
2. Playing in the East against weaker teams.

Suprise: LSU - No not that we will win... You will be surprised that another year has passed and we still can't manage to get our shite together.

Disappointment: UGA I think they will have a 9 win season which, by last years standards will be a huge disappointment for them.

Florida is definitely gonna surprise people. Coaching makes a difference in this league and the hunchback is better than what they have had for the last several years in gainsville.

I have no idea on the disappointment yet because there are no accurate predictions out for the fall yet. I would choose the highest ranked team with no clear leader at the QB spot.

Surprises-
*Mississippi State- I see them surprising a lot of folks this year. Their key games will be when Florida and Auburn come to Starkville. If they win those, they are looking at a NY6 Bowl in all likelihood.

*South Carolina- I think they are Georgia's top competition for the SEC East

Disappointments-
*LSU- LSU will disappoint mainly because the schedule is insanely difficult. Losses to Miami, Alabama, Georgia, and Auburn are all likely. Drop just one more game and that puts them at 7-5 and fans will NOT be happy. I think 6-6 is even possible.

*Florida- I've never been impressed with Dan Mullen so I do not think he's going to be the savior that many Florida fans are hoping. I think they lose to Mississippi State, Georgia, and Florida State. If they win all the others, then it would have been a pretty good year. Unfortunately they have a bunch of 50/50 type games I think could go either way: Missouri, S. Carolina, LSU, and even Tennessee. I think Florida goes 7-5 and fans are quietly annoyed.

If they get too much hype, they might go from my surprise pick to my disappointment pick.

What would surprising for Florida be record wise? I think they'll do much better than last year, but do you think they can do better than 8-4?

If we were to pull off 2/4 or 3/4 of those wins I would be shocked.

High expectations with a new staff can be a tough combination as well, but if Miss State can improve their rush defense, I see them as a serious NY6 game contender. I expect the offense to be at or near the top of the conference.

8-4 would be a great year. Our lines need a total rebuild and we still don’t have a proven QB. Mac left us the softest team in the SEC not named Tennessee. Skill position talent is awesome, but I don’t know if we can protect long enough to make them useful.

Last year we went 4-7. We lost to Michigan ooc and lost to our West opponents (LSU + A&M) by a combined 3 points.

OOC gets replaced with Idaho this year, LSU should be worse, MSU about the same as A&M last year. We get Scarlett, Davis, and a couple of LBs back from suspension. Every receiver, RB, and OL of note is back (Heggie hopefully up to speed by fall).

Fans should expect 8-4 due to QB play and lack of depth at OL and LB, but if we stay healthy and Franks' limitations are mitigated, we could easily go 10-2 or 11-1 next year.

Surprise: Ole Miss wins a game or two they shouldn’t including the Egg Bowl. I personally think MSU’s coach is a terrible fit for that program.

Disappointment: No SEC program reaches the playoffs.
