word out of Dallas is that while nothing official yet, the #Buffs, #BearDown and #SunDevils in already in principle. You'll likely see this in tomorrow's newspaper in Denver, Tucson and Tempe. #Ducks still holding out for a #B1G offer that will likely never come

So the big 12 stays alive for a little while longer.

I think the PAC is the conference of the past.

Greg Swaim said it…no it never happens now. Never seen anything he said since the Suttons left Stillwater come to fruition.

thing is, the only directional conference left will be the SEC

"Big" means nothing

The west coast teams will probably actually begin to dominate the "Big" 12

SEC needs to stay committed to south and east, and be the last man standing

Anyone who thought the big 12 was dying is just fooling themselves to much pride to die

So Utah wants to stay in a depleted conference ? Makes no sense.....

Utah should be the first team pout the door...

It would be smart of them to make that jump but it seems they’re going to try and make an absurd deal with the ACC that will keep the PAC 12 afloat for a few more years until Clemson, FSU, Miami and UNC can get out of the ACC.

Why would that happen? It is not as if they were "dominating" in the Pac to begin with. I assume you mean by West Coast teams as being Stanford, Cal, Orgeon, Wash.

Actually, their best chance to survive might be to do so without Texas.

LHN contract prevents a Big 12 TV Network from being viable. Which leaves Big 12 teams in the dust financially compared to SEC and Big 10 programs

With Texas and the LHN on the way out the door, and an opportunity to expand into populous new territory like Colorado and Arizona. Maybe Utah, Oregon, Washington too, and start a conference network based on the successful model already proven by the Big 10, and SEC. And the Big 12 might finally start to thrive.

Not the answer I would have predicted, but it does kind of make sense when you think about it.

I’m talking about their new proposed alliance with scheduling agreements, co-conference title game and the ACC Network taking over the PAC 12 Network and broadcasting their games on the West coast instead of ACC games. It’s a terrible idea but it seems to be what is gaining traction.

The third tier rights were profitable to many Big 12 teams and is something other conferences don’t allow and many pundits are ignorant of.......BUT, Recently things have gone ballistic as far as tv contracts for conferences , seemingly beyond the actual value of the tv content. So right now is the time to grab the brass ring , while it is there. Boom bust cycles happen in all businesses. Right now CFB conference TV contracts are in a boom cycle. Grab the cash before the inevitable crash comes......

The lurking monster is the specter of a non ncaa system , and a non ncaa championship playoff system.... I think this gets more credence than deserved , but hey, every sports writer is a front runner . They all are willing to throw away what little credibility they might think they have for the minute chance of being near the front of the pack on a new development.....

The shifting of teams between conferences does cause both good and bad fallout or collateral damage.... Oklahoma and TexASS to the SEC created a huge opportunity for Cincy, BYU, UCF, and Houston and now the new commish looks to be on top of things by taking some of the best of the PAC to make a really good conference . The bad collateral damage is that the PAC is dead, but it was going to happen anyway it was just accelerated......

The big 10 screwed up by taking Cali schools. There is no noticeable support for those two teams . Cali is too liberal for CFB, it is what it is...Riley will be a bust and that will be the end of usc...2 years tops...

Third tier rights are what other conferences pool to create conference networks that are actually worth a shite.

While Big 12 schools are auctioning off shitty non-conference games and track meets to local channels to air instead of Judge Mathis reruns, the Big 10 and SEC have theirs on basic cable nationwide with high quality production value.

It's not a question of whether or not third tier rights are profitable. It's a question of how profitable. And the conferences with successful conference networks are leaving everyone else in the dust.

The boom bust cycle you mention has been booming for 10 years. Y'all just haven't been part of it. Because someone convinced yall it was better to sell your own individual tier rights to whoever might have an open tv slot that day instead of creating a nationwide revenue generator that brings national exposure to all your schools athletic programs.
