Flags are a tradition that are well past time to be put away as nothing but a ceremonial relic of bygone days when armies were identified on the battlefield by the banner they flew. I don't see anyone squaring off in formation firing muskets at one another across a French battlefield. If it's gonna cause this much shite, why not just put the stupid things in a museum and forget about them?

What about the rainbow flag?

Fun with flags.
Big flags at a game are fun.

So liberals have something to desecrate when their tantrums and virtue signaling are at full throttle.

And conservatives can have a symbol of their victimhood when someone shits on their flag...

Flags are sill and people who find them near and dear to their heart or offensive are silly as well..

The same Bear Bryant that grew up in Arkansas? If he was a racist piece of shite, must've been his upbringing.

So Phil (an alleged Gump fan) has just attributed Bear Bryant’s Racism to an Arkansas upbringing!

Nice job Phil — Mr Rogers called and he wants you out the fkn neighborhood by Friday or he’s gonna send his goons to cut off your bird fingers first

I find the American flag pretty damn near and dear. I'll still defend someone's right to protest, not their option to desecrate.

If you're not willing to support, you don't deserve the benefit. If you want to be a socialist, float east. If you wanna be a fascist, well, go find some swastikas in Europe.

When someone takes a knee during the national anthem, they damn well need to be saying AMEN when they get up.

Down vote? Don't GAF.

So you would dictate to another person what they do with their private property because of what it looks like? That's just silly. If they were desecrating your property by all means have a hissy fit....but desecrating their property? What business is that of anyone other than themselves?

If they flew a Grateful dead T-Shirt over their house on a flag pole and at the end of the day removed it and used it to wipe their behind on I would guess no one would have a problem with that, other than finding it strange....but do that with a piece of cloth that is sewn together or died to look like a US Flag and some folks would have a stroke...there ain't a difference but some folks would lose their mind in the latter instance. Just silliness....

It's true the functional purpose of flags has greatly diminished, but it is by no means gone. flags are still necessary identifying nationality of soldiers, ships, and territory. Sure these functions are all redundant to other systems, but visual symbols are a useful baseline form of communication. For example, you could read the plaque on the gate that says "US Embassy", but you could also recognize it as such from a much greater distance by seeing an american flag flying over a secured building in a foreign country, and put 2 and 2 together.

Flags are also a symbol of unity and heritage. There is a single, clear, intended message coded into each flag. Not everyone responds positively or accepts the message, but that doesn't mean the message doesn't exist or has no value.

To say flags as a concept are a tradition that has outlived their usefulness is tantamount to saying the ideas the flags are intended to represent are outdated also. I don't know about you, but I think we need more of the values typically coded into flags, not less.
