Some candidates from my lifetime. Who ya got?

2018 Alabama- Going into the national championship they were on the verge of being the greatest team ever. Got crushed by Clemson with a generational QB and Dline talent.

2011 LSU- Finished 13-1 with the only loss to Alabama in natty. Beat Alabama at Alabama earlier in the year also beat the rose bowl, orange bowl and cotton bowl champions. Finished with 8 ranked wins all of them were blowouts except the eventual national champions.

2009 Florida - Tebows senior year. #1 all year long. Got popped in the SECCG by eventual national champion Alabama.

2004 Auburn - Got absolutely hosed. Finished undefeated but didn’t get a shot at the title. OU got demolished by USC in the natty.

1995 Florida - Got steamrolled by Nebraska but won the national title the following year with the same core.

2017 UGA- One of the best defenses assembled in SEC history. Finished 13-2 with a loss to Auburn who they later beat and an overtime loss to Alabama in the title game.

2006 LSU- Lost an extremely controversial 7-3 game vs Auburn. Finished 11-2 including thrashing Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl. Lost 4 rounders off this team and won the national title the following year.

2012 A&M - Johnny’s Heisman season. 11-2 with loss at home to Florida and at LSU

Stop it.

Aggy lost to every ranked team they played at home that year and gave up 57 points to LA Tech.

Stop it.

2012 A&M was 1-2 injuries away from 7-6.

Downvote all you want, but when four defensive starters were out against Louisiana Tech, the defense gave up 57 points. That's almost 2x the next highest number of points allowed that season in any one game.

Manziel gets injured and A&M loses at Ole Miss, vs. Louisiana Tech and at Alabama at a minimum.

Also, the 2012 A&M/LSU game was in College Station.

This one probably stands out the most to me from my lifetime. Honestly.

On a side note, it would've been interesting to see what Curci would've done at Kentucky had it not got busted by the NCAA. Went 10-1 (loss to Baylor) in '77 and went undefeated in the SEC. But completely fricked himself after that with TV bans and scholarship reductions.

I know that for 2013 Auburn it was really just a magical run, not a dominate team, but it felt like they had everything they needed to win. Towards the end of the year, when things got wild, the team just refused to drop a game. It always felt like, they would finally lose, until they found yet another way to steal one, until the FSU game. You started to wonder if they would ever lose again. And even against FSU they stood their ground and almost stole another game against a Heisman winner and team loaded with NFL talent.

Since Saban's been at Bama, every team except for '07 that didn't already win a natty you could add to your list.

There are some UTenn teams from the Manning era that should be on the list.

2016 Bama will always be one of the best teams of all time, and nobody will ever remember them.

Deshaun Watson refused to lose.

2009 Florida is also an easy pick.

You and all your little purple and gold troll friends know good and damn well he ain’t no generational talent Their receivers tore our arse up all night long and he just tossed up lobs for them to snatch out of the sky. He got exposed when he actually played a defensive coordinator and back end worth a damn. He has a prototypical NFL frame but he’s dumb as a door nail when he’s under pressure.

I was about to post this.

2016 BAMA was unbelievable. Defense was ridiculous, probably the best ever.

The drama with Kiffin at the end of the year hurt you guys. If Kiffin calls the plays in that game Bama probably wins by 10.

But yeah, Deshaun was unreal.

I do think we were slightly better the year before, but Saban made the decisive call with the onside kick. Plus, it was our first time on the big stage and we weren’t quite use to what it takes to win a game like that. But we learned.

Truly. I don't think there will ever be another ensemble of talent like that on the same side of the ball again.

Jonathan Allen (1st round)
Daron Payne (1st round)
Dalvin Tomlinson (2nd round)
Tim Williams (3rd round)
Ryan Anderson (2nd round)
Reuben Foster (1st round)
Rashaan Evans (1st round)
Minkah Fitzpatrick (1st round)
Marlon Humphrey (1st round)
Eddie Jackson (1st round)
Ronnie Harrison (3rd round)

8 of the 11 are starters in the league. I think the only one not currently on an active roster is Reuben. Hopefully he'll find a way to get his shite together at some point.

ETA: Looks like Tim Williams isn't on the active at Green Bay.

Interested to see how that compares to other teams over the years

I can't think of any teams off the top of my head that had 7 first round draft picks from the same side of the ball, with all 11 going in the first 3 rounds. There might be one, but I'm unaware of it.
