Highland Park area as well as Avondale is very crunchy granola hippie.

The Blue Collar Burger at Fancy’s on Fifth is one of the greasiest, juiciest 1/2 pound globs of ground beef and cheese you can sink your teeth into.

Are y’all watching the bowl game? The announcers said New Orleans has great food. They are not even from there! And they are not Louisiana to the bone like coach O! There’s a lot of coonassery in this thread!

Edit-Just said, “Maybe the best food city in America.”

They don't call Birmingham "The Portland of the South" for nothing.

I have family in Mountain Brook and Homewood and I have never heard of Birmingham being referred to that. Also, the food scene isn't near as good as you are trying to make it out to be. Certainly not to New Orleans, Charleston, Atlanta, Nashville level.

Birmingham is on par with Greenville.

I guess they're "crunchy granola hippie" strictly because of their Chacos and brand new Patagonia pullover purchased from Alabama Outdoors? Or, is it because they live on the other side of the 700 foot hill that Birmingham types refer to as a "mountain"?

Birmingham has better food than Nashville and it's not really even close. I've lived in Nashville for 12 years now and it's coming up in the last 5 years or so, but still has a ways to go.

The thing about Birmingham is there are not very many designated entertainment and food districts so if you are not from there you wouldn't stumble across some real gems.

Damn, you have something personal against Birmingham, huh?

Is it that the Mtn. Brook and Homewood family you referred to are highly successful while your immediate family are the black sheep of your extended family? Or did you just walk in on an ex in bed with a Birmingham baw?

I don’t know if it’s 20 but it seems as if every other chef or restaurant here has some sort of James Beard. It’s not very unique here

According to their foundation's site, 20 is an accurate count for Nola.

That's just restaurants. Not chefs.

Meridian for a small city has several nice restaurants including:
Weidmann’s (the oldest restaurant in the State of MS- since 1870)
Harvest Grill
The Rustler-best steaks you will ever eat
DT Grinders

Good food definitely floats around the SEC
