New Orleans also gives real Cajun good a bad name.
Because New Orleans isn’t Cajun. New Orleans is a thing unto itself.

It honestly started in Missouri, why have an issue with this?
Earl and Agnes Lambert with 14 cents between them, borrowed $1500 from Tish Jones and with 5 employees opened for business in a small building on South Main Street in Sikeston Missouri.
His point was nobody thinks Lambert's is the best restaurant in Alabama. That's insane.
Hell nobody thinks Lambert's is the best restaurant in Foley, led alone on the coast. It wouldn't even rank in the top 25.

You can say that again. Worst thing to ever happen to Cajun food cooking was burnt redfish

New Orleans has 20 James Beard award winning establishments. So many people in this thread just trolling right along.
I don’t know if it’s 20 but it seems as if every other chef or restaurant here has some sort of James Beard. It’s not very unique here

Good to see Birmingham seeing some success. But there's no real competition from anywhere in Alabama when it comes to food if New Orleans is in the discussion.
Nobody is saying that Birmingham is better overall than New Orleans, but there are absolutely a handful of restaurants in Alabama that stack up with the top restaurants in New Orleans.
But what do i know? I'm only listening to the opinion of unbiased national food critics. They don't have near the wisdom of biased Louisiana native who's probably never even eaten anywhere in Alabama except for fast food and O'Charley's

You are embarrassingly dumb.

I don’t care for restaurants that are beard winners. I live in Houston and have been to some. It’s not all that great honestly. You don’t go there for the food or the environment, you go there because it’s a prestigious thing to do. I’ll take a hole in the wall bbq joint here in Houston over any of the beard winners.

I'm the same type of way honestly, and Birmingham is full of great local hole in the wall places, BBQ and anything else you'd want.

You’re like that kid who says stupid shite like “you’re a poo poo head” regardless of what was said to you just because you feel like throwing a temper tantrum.

Right there with you bud. You have any recommendations for Birmingham?

Ok, if you’re going to act like a child then you shall be treated like one.

I'm assuming you're NOT describing me since (1) I grew up in Alabama AND remember how excited friends were to go to Lamberts or to go to The Macaroni Grille when passing through Montgomery, and (2) I can guarantee that I've had much better food options in Baton Rouge and New Orleans than I ever had in Montgomery or Birmingham. Since moving out of the South (and maybe that makes my view of Birmingham uninformed these days), I've eaten at restaurants on the James Beard lists in Philly, DC, and Chicago, cities that New Orleans is in competition with. Birmingham is getting some attention, and that's truly great for the city and the state. But let's not act like Birmingham is the best thing since sliced white bread (which, as has been pointed out, is an acceptable part of Alabama restaurant menus).
Also, wait, when did people in Alabama care what liberal elites think about them and their food?! James Beard was gay. I wonder if y'all wanna give that award back now...
Also also, Birmingham is too small to be an unbiased location for the SEC offices . Just sayin.
